Reading Round Up – January 11th – 21st

Hi Friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I have not read anything in days and honestly I feel ok about that. Im not in the head space right now and don’t want to pressure myself to pick up a book until I am ready too. However, I had some great reading for my second round up of the month! I had only one 3 star book and it still wasn’t a bad book just not for me.

The Sweetest Remedy by Jane Igharo – 4 Stars Hannah has never really known her Nigerian father or his family but when he passes she is asked to attend his funeral. With the encouragement from her mother, Hannah goes and finally gets to meet her 4 siblings and also reconnects with a handsome man she met briefly back home. I really enjoyed this story about Hannah and all her siblings, I hope we might get some stories about them! Audio book was also great, highly recommend!

How To Love Your Neighbor by Sophie Sullivan – 3 Stars Enemies to Lovers are always my favorite tropes in books and while this one was cute it was just ok. This one follows Grace who inherits her grandparents house and her next door neighbor Noah. Grace is finishing up her last semester of design school and is ready to start her next chapter in life but her neighbor Noah is making that difficult. Noah is used to getting everything he wants and he wants the house next door but Grace will not sell it to him. What starts off as a contentious relationship ends up being a woking partnership. Noah lands a spread in a Home Decorating magazine highlighting the renovations on his new house and Grace ends up as his designer. I really enjoyed the decorating aspects of this book but felt more meh to the main characters. I grew up watching Trading Spaces on HGTV and Grace and Noah with the help of their friends decide to do this in the book and it was one of my favorite parts in the book. Overall it was cute and fun but maybe not very memorable for me. Thank you St. Martin’s Press for my gifted copy for review.

Ramon and Julieta by Alana Quintana Albertson – 4 Stars I feel like this might be an unpopular opinion but I have never been a fan or Romeo and Juliet, even the movies but the premise of this one sounded really cute to me! Ramon is part of a huge corporation that is known for its restaurants called Taco King, his father started it years ago and now he is set to take over when his father retires. Ramon ends up buying a block of businesses in an area of San Diego when Julieta is the head chef of her families traditional restaurant. Ramon and Julieta have a chance meeting without realizing who the other is. The two decide to try and make their relationship work even knowing the difficulties ahead. I really enjoyed reading this one. I love Julieta and her family and all of the food descriptions! Highly recommend this one if you are a fan of Romeo and Juliet or cooking or even if you are not. Thank you Berkley for my gifted copy for review!

The Love Con by Seressia Glass – 4 Stars This was such a fun read but I will say also very frustrating at times. We follow Kenya who is in the final two on a costume making show as she has to go back home for 4 weeks to make her final project. Her best friend is helping her by pretending to be her fake boyfriend but his goal is to become her real one! I loved Kenya and Cameron’s relationship, they were so cute together! Again the audio book was great! If you are looking for books about plus sized characters or just love cosplay then check this one out!

Love At First Spite by Anna E. Collins – 4 Stars Im a sucker for enemies to lovers and this one did not disappoint! I started this one on audio but didn’t want to put it down so I bought the ebook and finished it in a day! This follows Dani who just recently ended her engagement after catching her fiancé cheating with their real estate agent. As a way to get back at him she decides to build an air bnb house right next door to his with the help of her two friends and hot but grumpy architect Wyatt. Love a good grumpy character! I really enjoyed this one!

Forever Lies by Kathleen Brooks – 4 Stars This is number 17 in the Forever Bluegrass series and follows Greer and Sebastian. I can’t say a lot about this one because it is so in depth with the series but I love it and I can’t wait for when we get new books in it. I will say these are very unbelievable romantic suspense with tons of comedy!! If you want good family stories with insta love and many quirky characters I would highly recommend this one.

Let’s Talk Bookish – January 21st

Friday’s are for The Let’s Talk Bookish Meme which is a weekly meme created and hosted by Rukky@EternityBooks and Dani@Literary Lion and todays topic is: DO BLOGGERS OWE THEIR READERS AND VICE VERSA? (RUKKY)

Do bloggers owe their readers anything? I think the truth is the only thing that “owed”. If you are not being truthful then are you being your authentic self?

Do bloggers deserve anything from their readers? I would say no because for my blog I do this for me as an outlet not for any other reason but if someone gets something from my blog then thats great!

Do you think there’s a specific etiquette that bloggers/readers should follow when interacting? We should all be nice and respectful of other’s opinions. We are all individuals and have different thoughts and ideas.

Do you as a blogger pressure yourself to provide certain things to your readers? Sometimes but thats usually when I take a break, this is supposed to be fun and when it’s not I now a break is in order.

Do you do certain things when you read a blog post? I will sometimes comment and I always try to like the post.

Book Tag: New Year’s Book Tag

Hello Friends! I am here today with a tag! I watch this one every year on Heather from Bookables youtube channel and always like doing her tags. You can find her 2022 video here.

–New Year’s Book Tag Questions–

1. How many books are you planning to read in 2022? My goodreads goal is set for 100 books this year and thats less than less years. I decided I wanted to lessen the pressure I put on myself when reading and have decided this is the year of “No”. I don’t want to get books just because I have fomo so I decided 100 is a good start for me.

2. Name 5 books that you didn’t get to in 2021 but want to make a priority in 2022. I have already ticked a few off but here are 5 more I hope to get too.

  • Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe
  • Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby
  • Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren
  • Meet Me in Paradise by Libby
  • Happiness For Beginners by Katherine Center

3. What genre do you want to read more of? I think this year I would like to get back into my fantasy series and hopefully catch up before new ones come out.

4. Name 3 non book related goals for 2022.

  • I have a work one that I am not going to share
  • Same with a life one, but they are just a little too personal for my book blog
  • I decided to teach myself to crochet the end of last year and I actually have a ton of goals for this. Im thinking I might do a post on it and you might also see some progress posts as well pop up throughout the year.

5. What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read? Too many to count and honestly if they are still on my shelf longer than 2 years then I unhaul them because I will likely never read them. But 3 of the ones from question 2 have been on my list for a long time!

6. One word that your hoping 2022 will be: Better

7. Tag a friend! If you like doing these then consider yourself tagged!

Reading Round Up – January 1st – 10th

Hi Friends! How is everyone’s reading and just general life going so far in January? Now that covid has left my house we are doing so much better! I did get in some great reading so far and I am hoping to continue for the rest of the month but we shall see.

Only When It’s Us by Chloe Liese – 4.5 Stars This was a re-read for me, I think it was my third time! I love all the Bergman books but I think my favorites are this one and the second one which I will be re-reading as well in the upcoming months. You can see my original review here or my first re-read review here. Needless to say I highly recommend this book.

The Family You Make by Jill Shalvis – 3 Stars Happy Pub Day!!  I always love Jill Shalvis’s books, they are such comfort reads especially when you are stuck inside with Covid.  I really enjoyed this story about two friends and the found family they make.  Our main story line follows Jane who is a traveling nurse and is stranded on a ski lift in Utah with Levi when the lift in front of them suddenly falls to the ground.  This near death experience prompts Jane to come out of her tight shell she has wrapped around herself to not only let Levi in but other new friends as well.  This book begins a new series and I am excited to continue on with it and see where she goes next.  While this book did have some heavier topics I felt like overall this was still a more mellow read.  If you have enjoyed her books in the past then I think you will like this one too!  Thank you William Marrow for my #gifted copy for review!

Love and Other Disasters by – 4 Stars This was such a fun read and I loved both characters so much! This is a sunshine and grump trope which is one of my favorites!! We follow Dahlia who is recently divorced and trying to move on with her life when she gets picked for a cooking competition show. Her first day on set she meets London and the two have a memorable meet cute! London is picked for the show and just wants to keep their head down and win the show so they can start a non-profit to help LGBTQ+ kids in their home town. I loved the journey of the relationship and what each one has to go through to get to the point were they can be happy. I also loved the description of the food and cooking, I always enjoy reading about that in my books. If you are looking for romances that follow diverse characters than I would highly recommend picking this one up, it has bi rep and a nonbinary character. Thank you Forever for my gifted copy for review!

Electric Idol by Katee Robert – 4 Stars After reading and loving Neon God’s last year I knew I had to read Electric Idol! In this book for are following Psyche who is the daughter of Demeter and Eros the son of Aphrodite. After Eros is charged by his mother to kill Psyche he decides to change the game and marries her instead. Im not a huge fan of the marriage of convenience trope but I did enjoy this one. What starts out as a way to stay alive turns into so much more and I enjoyed the journey both took but especially Eros. He might be my favorite character so far in this series. I love this world so much and can’t wait for the next book!! Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca for my gifted copy for review.

If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy – 3 Stars I want to say that first off that I am not a fan of Bachelor type shows and I really need to stop picking up romance books that center around this theme for the plot. With that said this was still a cute book but I just need to stop reading this trope. I am not a fan of when two characters seem to like each other and then continue to date and develop romantic relationships with other people! Anyways, this book follows Cindy who is still dealing with the grief of loosing her father and has just finished design school and decides to move back home with her step mother and sisters while figuring out whats next. On the flight home she meets a handsome man and sparks ignite but they don’t get each other’s contact information. Once home she gets the opportunity to be on her step mom’s dating tv show where a man picks a woman to marry. Im sure you can guess where this is going and again it was a fun read just not for me.
