6. Which is your preferred form of reading (physical, audio, ebook..)? Physical or audio

7. Who is your most owned author? I would say Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Lynsay Sands or Gena Showalter.

8. Describe your favourite writing style? Im not sure what my favorite is but I don’t like being bogged down in to many details, I also like good dialogue.

9. Which literary devices do you like/dislike? I am not a fan of allegorical stories.

10. Which character archetypes do you enjoy? I like the rebel and the warrior, strong female characters with great personality.

11. Which are your favourite book settings? I love small towns and anything tropical or UK.

12. Which are your favourite romantic and plot tropes? I love enemies to lovers! It will always be my favorite! And also a grumpy but loveable main character, either male or female.

Book Blitz: Titan by Harley Wylde

Titan
Harley Wylde
(Hades Abyss MC, #5)
Published by: Changeling Press
Publication date: October 16th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Delilah — I love my family. I really do. But having three older brothers and an overprotective father doesn’t make it easy to have a life. They’ve run off every guy I’ve ever tried to date. It’s time I made a life of my own, even if that means I have to leave home to do it. I never thought I’d end up in yet another town with a motorcycle club, or that I’d be working out of their clubhouse as a webcam girl. I enjoy the freedom, and the money. No one would ever believe I’m technically a virgin. I haven’t even been really, truly kissed much less done anything else with a guy before. When the club President, Titan, kissed me, then issued a challenge, how could I possibly refuse?

Titan — I no longer looked at the girls frequenting the clubhouse the same way I had before. Being a dad changed my perspective, especially since I had a daughter. I still had fun, but it had lost its appeal. Then she walked in. Too young. Too innocent. Until she asked to join the webcam girls. The thought of strange men watching her made my hands clench. It was safer if only I had access to the feed, or so I told myself. Really, I’m just being a possessive bastard. Delilah will be mine, whether she realizes it or not. One kiss is all it takes for me to know she belongs to me. When she’s taken, I know I’ll do whatever it takes to get her back, and I’ll bury anyone who’s hurt her. Delilah is mine, and I will kill to protect her.

WARNING: This book contains strong language, graphic sex and violence, and spanking. There are scenes some may find difficult to read. It also has a dog who’s too smart for his own good, a sweet yet sassy heroine, and a hero who knows there’s nothing more valuable than love and family.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

Before I left town, I needed to make one stop. I knew my dad and Ben would be at the garage over on Pearson Avenue. I pulled into the lot and braced myself, not knowing if this would be a mistake or not. Dad would either get mad and tell me good riddance, get pissed and yell that I wasn’t going anywhere, or he’d hug me and wish me well. I wasn’t counting on option three since I was his only daughter.

Ben waved at me as I walked past and went into Dad’s office, and I quietly closed the door. He had his feet kicked up on the desk, the phone to his ear. He gave me the just a minute gesture, holding one finger up, so I stood and waited. After he wrapped up his call, he got up and hugged me tight.

“Haven’t had you drop by my work in a while,” he said.

“Well, I needed to talk to you about something. And I’m kind of hoping if there are witnesses you won’t try to kidnap me and toss me into the back of your truck.”

He took a step back, frowning. “Why would I do that?”

I sucked in a breath and braced myself. Mom had taken it well, but I had a feeling Dad would be more like Griffin. I’d been his little girl for so long, and he wasn’t ready to let go. Even when I’d checked out colleges, he’d insisted I not go far from home. Which was why I hadn’t gone at all.

“Because I’m leaving town. I’m moving.”

He stared and didn’t move or make a sound. My fingers twitched and I shifted my weight.

“I’m twenty, Dad, and I can’t live with you and Mom forever. It’s time I made my own way in the world. With Griffin, Ben, and James always lurking in the shadows, I never get a chance to do anything fun around here. I can’t have a boyfriend or any sort of normal life. So I’m going to move closer to Missy. I’ll only be a day’s drive away and it’s not like I’ll never come home.” I stopped rambling and realized my dad was far quieter than he’d ever been in my entire life.

“Does your mom know?” he asked.

I gave a quick nod and hoped I hadn’t just started a fight between my parents. My dad adored my mom, but they’d had some fights that I’d thought would bring the house down. The longer he went without saying anything, the more nervous I became. I shifted, moving slightly closer to the door in case I needed to run for it.

“Guess I can’t keep you home,” he said softly. “You better send your address when you get there and call every day. If I don’t hear from you, I’m coming to make sure you’re okay. Understood?”

My mouth opened and shut a few times before I found my words. “I understand. Thank you, Daddy. I’d thought this would be harder. Griffin didn’t react well.”

My dad grunted. “Figures you’d tell your mom and brothers before me.”

I moved closer, putting my arms around him. I rested my cheek on his chest and hugged him tight. “Maybe I was saving my favorite for last. Although, I only managed to tell Griffin. He took it so badly, I chickened out before I could tell the others.”

He sighed and ran his hand down my hair. “Feels like I’m losing my little girl. Love you, Delilah. To the moon and back.”

“Love you too, Daddy. I’ll always be your little girl, but it’s time for me to go live my life. I can’t promise I won’t make bad decisions, but I’ll learn from them. You don’t have to worry. You and Mom taught me everything I need to know in order to stand on my own two feet.”

He pressed a kiss to my forehead and gave me a nudge. “Go on then. Get on the road and be careful.”

Lets Talk Bookish 10-16

Happy Friday! Who else is ready for the weekend? My husband and I are going away to the mountains and I am so excited!!! So today I am participating in the Let’s Talk Bookish weekly meme, this is created and hosted by Rukky@EternityBooks and Dani@Literary Lion. This weeks theme is TBR’s. Do you have one? And if so how do you keep track of all the books you want to read?

THE CARE AND KEEPING OF A TBR (Lydia @ Lydia Scoch)

Do you maintain a TBR physically, online or both? Yes! I have shelves full of unread books! They are divided up by genres, my mass markets are on one bookcase. The one pictured is romance, thrillers, YA, fantasy and then fiction. I also have To Read shelf on goodreads for all the books I don’t own physically.

How do you decide which books get to go on your TBR? I add anything that sounds interesting to my goodreads shelf and for my physical one its mostly books I pick up second hand.

Do you ever “prune” your TBR to remove old books, how do you decide who stays and who goes? Yes! About every 6 months or so I will go through my books shelfs and get rid of things that no longer hold my interest. Sometimes this backfires and I end up buying a book again.

How big is your TBR currently? Too Big!!! Not sure physical but on goodreads I have 1585 books on it!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Until Next Time, Happy Reading!

Book Blitz: The Novice by Ava Lohan

The Novice
Ava Lohan
Publication date: October 13th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

I’m a novice about to take my vows. He’s the embodiment of sin—and the new owner of the convent that’s been my home for the past two years.

I shouldn’t want him. Yet from the moment he walks into Mother Superior’s office and threatens to turn Saint Clare into a luxury hotel, all I can think about are those lush lips, tight muscles, and perfect hair. That, and the devil’s bargain he proposes.

My body in exchange for the convent. For fourteen days, I’m to be with him at Lust, his exclusive sex club. Fourteen days obeying his every command.

Whatever I do, I can’t let myself fall in love with him. Because Kegan Anderson is a beast, and a beast can never love.

He can only destroy.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

He caught me admiring him and smiled. I swallowed hard, attempting to clear the knot that had formed in my throat. That smile could have belonged to the devil, persuading all the angels to fall from Heaven. He observed me with an air that reeked of ill intentions. He was bad company, like the guys my parents had prayed I wouldn’t bring home during high school. Despite his tailored clothing, he didn’t seem like the type of man any parent would want for their daughter. I remembered all too well the words he’d said to me that day, and I had the feeling he had continued down that sinful path.

There was something dark in him.

In his eyes.

“Yes.”

And in his voice.

I made the sign of the cross.

“You found her on your first try.” He ran his hands seductively through his hair, turning his gaze upon Mother Superior. “I have to give you credit. You did well.”

“Pleased to have satisfied your request, Mr. Anderson,” she replied, her tone revealing her contempt. “We don’t have many natural blondes at the convent.”

Perplexed, I looked at one, then the other. They stared at each other in silence. I understood less with every minute.

“Mother, what’s going on?”

I walked around the desk to face her, resisting the urge to pick up my veil and put it back on. The man’s eyes followed me in my sacred dress. I pretended it was just Mother Superior and me in the room. Although it was no easy task, I forced myself to ignore his presence.

“You are here as part of an agreement.” Mother Superior finally looked at me. “Mr. Anderson’s grandfather passed away, and now he has inherited the property the convent stands on.”

I couldn’t understand what any of that had to do with me.

Mother Superior took some documents out from a drawer. “Mr. Anderson intends to sell the property at an exorbitant price that the convent simply cannot afford to pay. We cannot save it, Sister Rose.”

“I was thinking of building a luxury hotel. That is, unless…” The man, whose first name I still didn’t know, lit a cigarette, leaving me petrified. Mother Superior flinched, but she remained silent, not wishing to respond to his clear challenge of her authority. Resting her chin in her hands, she glared at him in disgust.

“You’re going to hell, Kegan Anderson.”

Kegan. His name was Kegan.

He took Mother Superior’s words as a compliment. He laughed. A low, sensual laugh.

“Oh, I’m sure of it, Sister.”

Birthday Book Tag

Photo by Sharon McCutcheon on Pexels.com

Hello my book friends! Today is my birthday so I thought I would do the Birthday Book Tag. I found this book tag over on Kristen Kraves Books.

BIRTHDAY CAKE – a book with a plot that seems cliche but you adore it anyway

The Hating Game – This book has your classic trope of enemies to lovers but there is just something about these two characters that make it perfection. ~ILoveJosh4Eva~

PARTY GUESTS – your most anticipated book release this year

The Simple Wild – A lot of my most anticipated books have come out but I am still ridiculously excited for this book in the Wild Series!

BIRTHDAY PRESENTS – a book that surprised you with how much you loved it

The Sun Down Motel – I had been putting this one off because I haven’t been in the mood for thrillers lately but as some of you know I am doing quite a few readathons in October and this books checked off many boxes. This book was addicting! I could not stop reading it and needed to know how it ends.

THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG – a book that certainly deserved all the hype it got

When No One Is Watching – This book really worked for me! The mystery was intriguing and I loved the ending! Also throw in a small romance and you got me!

HAPPY MUSIC – a book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

Anxious People – This book had the most amazing writing style. I listened on audio but want a physical copy to go back and highlight all the great lines from it.

GETTING OLDER – a book that you read a long time ago, but you think that you would appreciate it more if you read it as a more mature reader

I can’t really think of anything that I read a while ago that I might appreciate more now.

SWEET BIRTHDAY MEMORIES – a book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life

Penny’s books are my go to’s for reading slumps or to make me feel better.

Until Next Time, Happy Reading!

Book Blitz: Night of the Vampire by L.E. Wilson

Night of the Vampire
L.E. Wilson
(Deathless Night-Into the Dark, #1)
Publication date: October 15th 2020
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Killian walked into my new voodoo shop late one night with an urgent request – he needed me to heal his friend. Only I know absolutely nothing about voodoo, or healing. I’m just trying to start a new life with what little family I have left after my dream of becoming a star on Broadway went up in flames.

Literally.

At first glance, he was an average looking guy with a European flair. Nothing outside the ordinary in the city of New Orleans. But despite his nerdy-boy attire, Killian was most definitely all man. And as his black eyes made their way up my body to my face, the look reflected within them wasn’t the least bit tame.

More like predatory…

I expected her to cast me down the moment I walked through her door. But I had no choice. One of my own was dying from a witch’s curse, and only another witch could undo the spell. However, Lizzy was not what I’d expected to find. Stunned by her beauty and overwhelmed by her scent, I burned with thirst until the blood raced through my veins and my body tightened with need.

But with one taste, she calmed the beast within me as the truth flooded my wicked soul. The witch is MINE. She is the pulse that feeds my immortal life and the bearer of my death. Taking Lizzy as my mate will bring about the end of my coven’s uneasy truce with the witches.

Leaving her will mean my demise…

My name is Killian Rice, and I am a vampire. Come Into The Dark with this new series by L.E. Wilson, and enter her Deathless Night. A world of immortals with only one weakness: The witches who can destroy us…

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

A man stood just inside the door, looking around my store with an amused expression on his face. At first glance, he wasn’t anything special to look at. About five foot eleven if the ruler on the door frame was correct, of average build, with pale skin, short, sandy brown hair and a classically handsome face that hadn’t seen a razor in a day or so. As I ran my eyes over his suspiciously dry clothes, I noticed he had what I would consider a bit of a European look to him. His dark jeans were fitted to his lean, muscular legs, and he wore a hip-length black sweater with a big collar open over a nondescript, dark green shirt. All he needed was a pair of glasses with thick frames to complete the look he seemed to be going for.

However, despite his nerdy-boy attire, the man standing in my shop was most definitely not a boy. And the look in his black eyes, once they made their way back up to my face, was not in the least bit nerdy.

More like predatory.

My lungs began to ache from lack of air, and I sucked in a quick breath through my nose.

Oh, my God. What was that?

The best cologne I’d ever smelled invaded my sinuses, overriding even the spiciness of the incense, and for a brief moment I closed my eyes as desire wound its way through my body, the sudden ache in my womb sharp and heavy.

A discreet cough brought me crashing back to where I was. Heat crept up my chest to fan out across my neck and face as I remembered myself, and I was self-consciously aware I must look as red as the curtain behind me.

The man smiled a secret smile, as though he knew exactly what was going on inside my body. Could see the carnal images running through my head.

Setting the bag on the counter, I pulled myself together and forced a professional tone to my voice. I think I may have even succeeded once I was finally able to get past the first few words. “I’m sorry, but the shop is closed for the night. However, we open tomorrow at ten.” I smiled as nonchalantly as I could manage. “I hope you’ll be able make it back then.”

Really, I secretly hoped he was just one of the many tourists and would be heading back out of town tomorrow. There was something about this guy that was making me distinctly uncomfortable. Potential customer or not.

Then he spoke for the first time, the musical cadence of his voice sliding over me like the soft notes of some cool Jazz. “Are you the owner of this…” He glanced around. “Shop? Did you call it?”

There was a slight lilt to his speech. Irish, maybe? His “are” sounded more like “a-our”. “Did you” more like “didja.” Yet he spoke so low, his deep voice so soothing, almost like a purr—or maybe a growl—that it was hard to catch if you weren’t paying attention.

“Yes. Is there something I can help you with?” Maybe he wasn’t a normal customer. Maybe he was here to try to sell me something, and that’s why I was getting such a weird vibe. That, and the fact that he’d somehow gotten in through a locked door.

Reading my mind again, he smiled and gestured toward the door. “Forgive me for coming in after hours. The door was unlocked.”

I flicked my eyes over to the door and then back to him. Like hell it was

He cocked his head to the side. “Are you a new here? I haven’t seen you around before.”

“New Orleans is a crowded city.”

“That it is, but mostly full of tourists. Us locals usually stick together.”

Did they? “I’m the new owner. My name is Lizzy Smith. How can I help you?” I repeated.

“Smith?” He appeared put off by my name.

I dropped all pretenses of being pleasant and frowned instead. “Yes. Smith. It was the best I could do on short notice.” I didn’t know what made that bit of truth come out. “Is there something I can help you with?” I repeated.

The lines of concern on his forehead disappeared as he strolled a few steps further inside the store, and closer to me. “Actually, I was looking for someone, but that’s not the correct name. Is there a better one you can think of, by chance?”

He was smirking at me. The bastard.

As casually as I could, I stepped back until I was standing at the end of the counter, nearer the pepper spray I always kept within easy reach, because I couldn’t afford the gun I wanted yet. “And you are?”

Gone.

I’d blinked, and he was suddenly standing directly in front of me, one hand wrapped around my upper arm. He’d moved so fast, it had taken my brain a few seconds to catch up with what my eyes had just seen. Or not seen, as it were. My heart thumped hard, once, and then it began to race, making me lightheaded. He stood so close, his make-me-want-to-rip-off-my-panties scent teasing my nose, it took another moment for me to be able to form a coherent thought. Unlike a normal cologne, whatever he was wearing didn’t get stronger with his near proximity, but mellowed to a mere tease of the scent. It drew me in to him without my realizing it, and I had the sudden urge to bury my face in his chest.

Gradually, I realized my hands were pressed flat against said chest. But whether to push him away or draw him closer, I couldn’t have said.

“Lizzy.”

Drawn by the soothing allure of his voice, I lifted my chin until my eyes met his. Like his scent, his average good looks became devastating up close and personal. Beneath my hands, his chest was warm. So very, very warm. My head swam and my heart continued its erratic beat as I drowned in the dark pools of his eyes.

My entire body ached to be closer to him.

The material of my jeans was all at once rough and irritating against my thighs as my blood raced to the surface, sensitizing my skin. My soft shirt prickly as hell. I had the sudden urge to offer myself to him. Anything he needed. Anything he wanted. If he would just get me out of these irritating clothes.

Black eyes bored into mine, and I’d swear they could see every dirty stain on my soul.

“I need your help.”

I struggled against the urge to obey his every wish. “But you just said I had the wrong name.” Though I felt my lips and tongue form the words, they came to my own ears as though through a vast void.

“The name doesn’t matter. You’re the person I’m looking for. You have to be. Because I don’t have any other options.”

Warning bells clanged loudly in my head, but I couldn’t piece anything together enough so that it made sense. “What’s your name?” I asked him through a fog.

He touched my cheek with the fingertips of his free hand, his dark eyes roaming across my features as they followed the trail they made. “My name is Killian. And you are not what I expected.”

Author Bio:

L.E. Wilson writes Paranormal Romance starring intense alpha males and the women who are fearless enough to tame them — for the most part anyway. 😉 In her novels you’ll find smoking hot scenes, a touch of suspense, some humor, a bit of gore, and multifaceted characters, all working together to combine her lifelong obsession with the paranormal and her love of romance.

Her writing career came about the usual way: on a dare from her loving husband. Little did she know just one casual suggestion would open a box of worms (or words as the case may be) that would forever change her life.

Lattes and music are a necessary part of her writing process, and sometimes you’ll find her typing away at her favorite Starbucks. She walks two miles to get there, to make up for all of those coffees.

Reading Round Up: September 21st-30th

Hello Book Friends and happy mid October! I am so late with the last of my September round up! Some days it’s hard to find words, you know what I mean? We are finally hitting cooler temps and I think I am done with my hammock for the year and that makes me really sad but hopefully I can start having fires soon so I can take cozy pics that way. How did everyone’s September go? Did you get to read all the books you wanted too?

Beard Science by Penny Reid – 5 Stars Ahhh Cletus, my absolute favorite of the Winston’s. He is sneaky and conniving and has a huge heart for those he loves. I love he thinks he has planned his life one way but then the Banana Cake Queen comes and blackmails him! Their relationship is one of my favorites and I always love re-reading their story. I am so glad that their story is continued in a new cozy mystery spinoff!

Take A Hint Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert – 4 Stars Another fun buddy read with friends! I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Get A Life Chloe Brown so I had high hopes foe this one. this is the second book and we are following Chloe’s sister Dani. Dani is not looking for a serious relationship but she is looking for someone to have “fun” with. Durning a routine fire alarm drill, Dani is trapped inside the elevator and security guard Zaf comes to her rescue and carries her out. Now a social media sensation the two decided to have a fake relationship to help out things in their lives. While I din’t like this one as much as the first it was still a fantastic and fun read. Zaf was the cutest and I wanted to cuddle him the entire book!! If you like some steam, a headstrong woman and a sweetheart of a guy in your books then definitely pick this one up. Can’t wait for Eve’s story next!

Summer at Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale – 2 Stars The only reason why I finished this book was because I was buddy reading with instagram bookclub. I had a very hard time connecting to the writing and the characters. We follow Hallie who has just lost her great aunt and they are spending the summer at the house she grew up in. She asks her best friend Ben to come with her even though he has his own life! I felt everything was way too convenient for Hallie, even with it being a book. I also felt like her entire family took advantage of Ben in different ways throughout the story. I have started the next book with my ig bookclub so here’s hoping its better!

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman – 5 Stars This book really snuck up on me. I was reading this as a buddy read with some friends because I got the audio from librofm and I was expecting that it would just be an ok read. Backman’s books have intimidated me in the past because of how well loved they are and the genre, it’s not what I typically read. So imagine my surprise when I binged this audio in about a day! It was so good and I could not put it down! I am now needing a physical copy so I can highlight all the great quotes that were in this book!

Beard in Mind by Penny Reid – 5 Stars This series is such a comfort read for me, no matter how many times I have read them they still give me all the feels! What I love about these books is that all the characters are so different and yet relatable. In this book the main character Shelly has OCD and it was so interesting to read a character with this. I could also relate to her at times with her anxiety and irrational fears, as I have those as well. Highly recommend this series, can’t get enough!!

I Was Told It Would Get Easier by Abbi Waxman – 4.5 Stars The only reason why this did not get a full 5 star for me was because I needed more at the ending. I am not one of those readers who lies vague endings. Give me an epilogue so I know how everyone is doing!! Jessica is a successful lawyer but she worries about her 16 year old daughter Emily. They are both going on a week long trip of colleges on the East Coast. The two both worry about their relationship and on this trip they really learn a lot about each other. I feel like at this point that Abbi Waxman can’t write anything that I won’t like.

One By One by Ruth Ware – 3.5 Stars This was my second Ruth Ware book and while it was better than the first I still didn’t think it was great. The plot is an Agatha Christie And Then There Were None Trope and I feel like that is over done. I read Shari Lapena’s An Unwanted Guest and thought it was way more enjoyable. I had the killer figured out really early in this one and the twists at the end just weren’t enough to make up for that. I will say the audio was good and that is the one of the reasons I finished the book.

The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker – 4 Stars Some day I will go to Alaska and it will all be because of this book. While one of the overall themes in this book is grief and anger and learning to deal with that, it also describes the beauty that is the wilds of Alaska. Since I first read this book I have found some other books set in Alaska and they just further my curiosity for one day seeing this place. I recently read the sequel and that one will pop up in a round up soon and I can not wait for the Christmas story dealing with these two characters that is coming out soon!

Until Next Time, Happy Reading!

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

“You’re a good man, Alex.” Kimi’s gaze was steady, urging him to meet it.

Finally, he spoke. “Have you ever been in love?”

Kimi was startled by the question. “I . . . I don’t know. Love is confusing.”

He turned to her. Their hands still touched. “Love is the simplest thing in the world.”

Kimi’s gaze fell beyond Alex. “Not for me.”

“Because you were promised to Chayton and he chose another?”

Kimi snapped her attention back. “I was never attached to him, and I do not yearn for his love.”

“It’s not a bad thing. Being in love is wonderful.” His chin dropped and he pinched his brow. “When the person loves you back. Chayton would be a good match for you. He obviously cares for you.”

“You cannot comprehend, Alex. For men like you, life is uncomplicated. You’ve never had the likes of Mrs. Johns throwing aspersions at you since you first understood what an insult was. It muddles everything. Even love.”

Their gazes locked. Pain was in his eyes, and for a moment Kimi wondered if he thought of his dead wife. Since he’d been injured, all she’s wanted to do is relieve him of his hurts, and so she did something quite shocking. On an impulse, she rocked forward and kissed him squarely on the mouth.

The pads of his lips were soft, but unmoving. Kimi released him, but kept her gaze steady, unapologetic.

“Why did you do that?” he asked.

“I don’t know.”

He exhaled, long and slow. “You’re mixed up in the life and death of this unusual situation.”

“Don’t tell me my mind.” Kimi prickled. “I make my own choices.”

And to prove her point, she tucked her knees and folded forward, pressing her lips solidly to his again, her hands on either side of his face. No sooner had she enjoyed this delicious connection than Alex pushed her gently but firmly from him.

“Kimi, we can’t. You’re too young. Barely nineteen. Will would have my hide. I’d have my hide.”

“Most women I know are married by my age,” Kimi protested.

“I don’t mean you’re too young to be with a man—I mean you’re too young for me. You should be with someone like Chayton. Young, vibrant. Not old and damaged.”

“I’m not talking about marriage.”

Alex’s eyes widened. “Kimi, you sometimes are very shocking.”

“Am I wrong that something passed between us when you found that photograph in my room? I saw it in your eyes. I see it now.”

Alex shifted away. “It’s unseemly to discuss this. I told you I didn’t mean to have those photographs. I’m horrified you found them. Oh god. I’ve ruined you. Men and women . . . they don’t, er, it’s not like what you saw in the picture. I mean, if they’re married, perhaps. But—”

“Indian women lie with Indian men when they’re not married.” At least that had been the way before the settlers came. Kimi wasn’t sure how often it happened now. But if she looked at Chayton as an example, it was still something that was done.

Alex rubbed his hand over his face, exasperated. “You weren’t raised like that. You were raised in society.”

“You’re wrong. My mother has always been a great influence. I feel the blood of my ancestors strong in me. And I don’t see what’s wrong with these cravings. A kiss never hurt anyone.”

Alex scooted to the other side of the room, and sat near the supplies.

Kimi crossed her arms over her chest, annoyed. “Do you desire me? Or do you not like the native blood in me?”

“Stop.” Alex sharpened his gaze. “My rejection has nothing to do with that. We shouldn’t even be speaking of these things. It isn’t proper. This is all highly disturbing. If I didn’t know you better, I’d think you were hysterical.”

“What if I am? Nobody would fault you for taking me.”

“I’m not ‘taking you.’”

Alex winced, gripping his injured arm. The makeshift bandage on his bicep seeped blood.

“Come here,” Kimi said.

“I think it’s best if I stay where I am.”

“Your bandage needs changing.” Kimi unrolled a fresh bandage and opened a jar of antiseptic.

Reluctantly, Alex sat beside her, his back ramrod straight. Kimi unrolled the soiled cloth from his forearm, cleaned his wound the best she could, then wrapped it with the fresh bandage.

When she was done, she sat back, but he stayed at the edge of the mat, rigid. Kimi fiddled with the edge of her ripped hide skirt, which ended several inches above her knee. Alex scanned his gaze up her thighs and then took the edges of the blanket and folded it over her legs, covering her naked skin.

He tucked his good arm under his head and spread his long body on the wood floor, beside the mat.

“Let’s rest. I think that bump may be having an odd effect on your sensibility.”

Top 5 Tuesday – October 13th

Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is books that have or talk about Ghosts! I am not a huge fan of reading about ghosts, I’m not sure why but just haven’t been drawn to them. Most of the ghosts I could think of are in paranormal romance series. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and now being hosted by Meeghan reads.

Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane – Main character Chess is a witch and ghost hunter, this is a pretty dark series and deals with heavier topics. Urban Fantasy

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones – In this series we have Charley Davidson who is a grim reaper and helps souls move on. Urban Fantasy

Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost – Love this series! It has ghosts, vampires and ghouls! Paranormal Romance

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier – Classic gothic tale about a new bride and the ghost of the previous wife who may still be lingering on the property. Classic

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James – A girl disappears one night while working at the Sun Down Motel and 25 years later her niece comes looking for answers.

I also want to mention two other books that have ghosts in them. I am currently reading both of these but haven’t finished them yet.

  • The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson – Classic story about a house that may be more than it seems.
  • Home Before Dark by Riley Sager – A Family leaves the house in the middle of the night and years later the daughter has returned to find out the truth of their stay in the house.

Whats your favorite story that has ghosts, whether real or imagined, in it?

Until Next Time, Happy Reading!
