End of the Year Book Tag

Hello Friends! Hope your weekend was great! We finally got up our tree and I worked on getting some of the other decorations put up around the house. So I have seen this tag going around youtube and some blogs like Leigh Hecking and Evelyn Reads and decided to give it a go. This tag was created by Ariel Bissett on Youtube.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish? I have started a few that I would like to finish. I have some non-fiction books and an ARC that I would really like to finish.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year? I don’t have a specific book but in October I like to read a lot of Mystery/Thrillers and then in November and December I like Holiday themed romances.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for? Yes! Forever Wild by K.A. Tucker comes out on December 1st!!

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year? I would like to read Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adama, Fable by Adrienne Young and In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year? Fable could maybe be a new favorite.

Have you started making reading plans for 2021? I have started to think about it but haven’t made much progress other than the arcs I have received on Netgalley.

The only thing I still have is Nikita.

Our circumstances finally stood aside so I could tell her how I feel.
But I betrayed her when I did the one thing she can’t forgive.
Our souls drag us together no matter how hard she tries to force us apart.
I’ve had to shed my arrogant ways and practice humility to try and earn her forgiveness.

Book Blitz: The Waltz of Devil’s Creek by Justine Carver

The Waltz of Devil’s Creek
Justine Carver
Publication date: October 20th 2020
Genres: Adult, Historical

Judith Campbell is dying, and she cannot take the painful truth about where her son came from to the grave with her. While on her deathbed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994, Judith tells him the tragic story of his conception, and which of two men his birth father could be: the young man who professed his love to her, or the pastor who assaulted her.

Set in the Deep South in 1947, The Waltz of Devil’s Creek digs into the dark crevices of racism and women’s rights during a heated political climate in an era of segregation. Combined with Judith’s lack of social stature, and at a time when reporting sexual assault was unheard of, every injustice is stacked against her from the very beginning.

But there is a light in Judith’s young life: her best friend, Joseph Bird, who has loved her since childhood. Joseph stands up for Judith when no one else will and proves that even in the darkest of times, a light is always burning.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

The sound of trickling water hit the floorboards beneath me; I sucked in a sharp breath and froze.

Joseph’s eyes strayed downward; his brows crumpled in his forehead, and he gawked at me like I’d grown a third eyeball. “Are you…peein’?” he asked as if he couldn’t believe such a thing.

“No…I uh…” I couldn’t get the words out, but I sure knew what was going on. I gripped my belly with both hands and sat down on the edge of the bed, fluid dripping down my legs—I’d swore I’d never wear a dress again, but I couldn’t fit into pants anymore. “I think I’m gonna have a baby now, Joseph.”

His eyes darted back and forth from my face to the puddle on the floor; he looked as white as the sheet I’d just dressed the bed with.

“Oh, umm…what do you…oh shit, Judy, I don’t know what to do. I’ll go get—.” He started for the door to fetch my pa.

“Joseph, remember what we talked about,” I said, stopping him in his tracks. “You can do this.”

“I remember a brief conversation about who’s gonna deliver this baby,” he said with sarcasm. “But I also remember tellin’ you ain’t no way in hell I can do it. You gotta go to the hospital.”

The first wave of pain struck me like somebody done hit me across the lower back with a two-by-four. “Ahh! Oh no, Joseph, this…ahhh!” I gritted my teeth so hard that pain shot through my jaw and into the top of my head. “I can’t go to the hospital…please, you promised.”

“What?! I did no such thing!”

“Yes, you did! You said: ‘I swear on my life I’ll deliver the baby if nobody else is around to do it’—can’t go back on it now.”

He threw his hands up in the air. “Well yeah, I may’ve said that, but it was only to get you off my back about it—I can’t deliver a baby!”

“You’re gonna have to!” I cried out in pain again and fell back against the bed; I didn’t know why, but for a moment, I thought about how I’d just made the bed and was annoyed by the awful timing.

I heard my pa’s voice from the doorway—he was like the dead arisen, as I hadn’t heard him say much in so long. I clamped my jaw down again, eyes closed so tightly I saw spots dancing on the inside of my eyelids.

Book Blitz: Gold by Maureen A. Miller

GOLD
Maureen A. Miller
(Blue-Link #4)
Publication date: November 16th 2020
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

Dig deep enough and you will strike danger.

It was the middle of January in Southeastern Alaska. Sara Eckert anticipated at least another two months of vacancy in her remote bed & breakfast. Until he showed up. A man not interested in hiking, fishing, or hunting. So, why was he there?

Two miners have gone missing. Their disappearance has been ruled accidental. To the firm that sent them to Alaska, that answer is unacceptable. Luke Reis has been dispatched to learn more. Gaining access to the remote wilderness isn’t so simple, though. He’ll have to enlist the owner of the Marmot Hideaway to help get him started.

As Luke and Sara dig deeper into the disappearance of the miners, they edge closer to passion. But the abandoned network of underground mines may stake the ultimate claim…their lives.

This is a standalone romantic suspense included a series with a similar theme.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Google Play

EXCERPT:

It was early. Only hearty fishermen were out and about on the dock right now. The rain tapered to a fine haze, and the fog receded enough to network through the spruce treetops like God had spilled a bottle of cotton balls down the mountain.

Retreating into the cabin, she grabbed the thermal mug of coffee and took a lukewarm sip. Between the groan of the Tub against the pier, and the gentle slosh of the tide slapping its hull, she was lulled into mental hibernation.

Until she saw him.

He didn’t belong here.

This man stalking down the gangway—eating each plank with determined strides. This man dressed in black jeans and a black leather jacket. Leather? Seriously? This man with diamonds of moisture clinging to short black hair. This man with a simple duffle bag hiked over his shoulder and a chiseled jawline grinding with purpose.

This man didn’t belong here.

Either he was in far more need of a vacation than he could ever imagine, or he was restless.

Driven.

That was the impression that came to mind.

From a distance it was easy to regard the dark hair and tan complexion as that of a native. Tlingit, maybe. But as he approached, the characteristics leaned another way. Long face, long thin eyes. Dark and intense. Even from this span, the traits tended towards Latin.

Whether or not he belonged—here he was—standing at the pylon the MH Tub was anchored to. No indecision. No bending at the knee to read the name of the boat. No perusal of the vessels around hers.

There was a tenacious focus to this man.

Sara set her mug back into its cradle, noticing that her hand shook slightly. She stepped out of the warm cabin with a broad smile and inflated enthusiasm.

Let’s Talk Bookish: November 20th

Hello Friends and Happy Friday! How is everyones week going? So far so good here, my kids are officially on fall break and then back to remote learning. Today’s Let’s Talk Bookish topic is a Freebie! Since I am new to this I went back and found this one from July and thought it would be fun. This topic was BLOG SCHEDULING which was suggested by Heran @ Be Frisky. The Let’s Talk Bookish Meme is a weekly meme that is created and hosted by Rukky@EternityBooks and Dani@Literary Lion.

Do you post on a schedule? I try to plan my blogs out at least a week in advance but there are the weekly memes that I do that are scheduled for the entire month.

Do you do certain memes every week? I do! Right now I do Top 5 Tuesday which was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and now being hosted by Meeghan reads and Let’s Talk Bookish which is created and hosted by Rukky@EternityBooks and Dani@Literary Lion.

Do you think posting on a schedule is more/less stressful than just posting when you feel like it? I find it less stressful because I have a bunch of drafts already going and then just schedule them for when I would like them to go live.

Do you think having a schedule is an important part of  being a good blogger? Not at all. Everyone works differently and what works for some people may not work for others.

Do you schedule your posts? Let me know in the comments below.

(Spirit of Christmas Novella)
Published by: Vinspire Publishing
Publication date: November 16th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Andi has always loved Christmas. The magic, the surprises, and a precious music box she treasures inspired her to open her own Christmas workshop. Andi’s Antiques is now a thriving business, and she sees a long future ahead.

But she hadn’t counted on Mike who wields his charm like a weapon or his determination to buy out her business and replace her quaint, antique shop with its wonder of Christmas with a bar and gaming tables.

Andi isn’t selling no matter how convincing he may be. Sure, there’s something about the guy that’s magnetic, but it’ll take a lot more than a handsome face to make her give up on her dream. Unlocking her heart, though, may be a different story.

Reading Round Up: November 1st-14th

Hello my lovely friends! I am here with my first round up for the month! I decided to break it up a little differently this month since I am doing a read-a-thon. So far my month is going good, I am happy with my reading process. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!!!

Pumpkin Everything by Beth Labonte – 3 Stars This was a cute Fall read about Amy who is horror writer that moves back to her small hometown to help her grandfather after he has an accident. Amy has writer’s block and recently called off her wedding so she figured it was a good time for a change of pace. Kit Parker was her high school love and she hasn’t seen him since she left town right after graduation and he still lives in the bottom unit of the house she grew up in. I am not usually a fan of second chance romances but this one was pretty cute. I would like to read the next one in the series but it might not be till next year.

One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London – 4 Stars When this book first came out I saw so many mixed reviews on it and after waiting a bit I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did. I am not a fan of reality tv and have never watched a single episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette but I enjoyed this book so much. I think I see what some may have not liked about it, the main character Bea, is a plus sized fashion blogger and sometimes when comments from her blog are posted they are not nice and use negative language. One night while live tweeting Main Squeeze (this world’s Bachelor/Bachelorette) about how there is no diversity in any way on the show. The new show runner decides that Bea will be the next Main Squeeze and we follow her on her journey of self love, romance and friendship with her fellow contestants. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun romance!

Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh – 4 Stars (re-read) – Sometimes I just need to comfort read and this series is a go to for me. This is book 2 in the Psy-Changling series and here we follow Vaughn who is a Jaguar and Faith who is an F-Psy, meaning she has foresight. Faith believes that her foresight is changing and that it means her mind is deteriorating so she turns to the only person she thinks can help her, Sasha Duncan who is Psy but is now the mate of Lucas who is the Alpha of a changeling clan. While in the changeling territory Faith meets Vaughn and from there she starts to question everything she knows. I love this entire series and my favorite pairings are the psy with the changelings! Highly recommend if you want a fantastic paranormal romance read!

A Cowboy for Christmas by Sara Richardson – 3 Stars I had picked this one up from the thrift store and was in the mood for a Holiday Cowboy Romance. I loved the small town in Colorado that this takes place in and need to go back and read the ones that came before in the series. Ty not wanting to go home for the Holidays tells his family he is engaged to Darla, this backfires when she needs his help with a fundraiser and his family is suddenly coming to him instead. Darla who is a widow and Ty, a rodeo star decide to fake date for the holidays and things do not go according to plan. Of course we all know in a romance what happens with fake dating. I also really liked that this story was about a woman in her 40’s, I feel like I don’t see that too often.

Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams – 4 Stars I finally got around to reading Undercover Bromance. I thought it was another fun read and would recommend it! Braden is the founder of the bookclub and is ready to start settling down. While on a date he accidentally gets Liv, who is Gavin Scott’s sister-in-law from the first book, fired from her job. Together the two end up teaming up to get back at her ex-boss. At times the story did tend to drag as it was following a suspense romance trope and the two characters were doing some sleuthing. I also had a really hard time liking the main female character, at times she was just a bit too much. All that being said I loved Vlad in this one and can’t wait for book #4!!

Ruthless by Deborah Bladon – 3.5 Stars – I binged this one in a day! It was a fun work place enemies to lovers story. Our main character Bella goes and blind dates and sits at what she thinks is her table and start chatting with the man sitting there, Turns out he was another date and Bella just spilled a bunch of info about herself to the stranger. The next week Bella finds out she has new boss who is non-other then the man she thought was her date. What follows is a great enemies to lovers workplace romance. I thought the book overall was a fun story and a quick read and I am excited to read more from this author.

The Fall in Love Checklist by Sarah Ready – 3.5 Stars – Review to come later.

Until Next Time, Happy Reading!
