Top 5 Tuesday: March 1st 2022

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @the Bionic Bookworm and is now being hosted by Meeghan @Meeghan Reads. This week’s topic is Top 5 books with doorways.

For today’s prompt I went with 3 books that I have read and 2 that are on my tbr. There were so many choses for books with doors on the cover that is was hard to choose just 5!

Every Heart Is A Doorway by Seanan McGuire – 3 Stars YA portal fantasy, I feel like this entire series has doors on every cover.

The Switch by Beth O’Leary – 3 Stars A Grandmother and Granddaughter switch places.

The House On Sunshine Corner by Phoebe Mills – 4 Stars Cute romance set in a small town.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris – TBR Domestic Thriller

Lock Every Door by Riley Sager – TBR Thriller

What are some books with doors on the cover that you like?

Reading Round Up February 11th – 20th

Hi Guys and happy Monday! I hope you are having a great last day of the month and finishing up any books that you can! Here is my second round up for the month and I should hopefully have my last one out in a few days!

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas – 3 Stars I was really hyped for this book since I kept seeing it everywhere and it won a Goodreads award for debut book but man it let me down. I felt this book was super long and kind of boring. It really needed some editing and then maybe it would have been a better read. I was also disappointed that we did not actually go to Spain until halfway through the book. Overall this book was meh for me.

Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell – 3 Stars. This was another book that I was excited for and it was a Goodreads nominee but again it was overly. long and the middle dragged. I am curious to read another from this author and see how their next book is. If you like space operas with some romance than you might want to check this one out.

A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross – 4 Stars I picked this book up on a whim since it was a Book of the month pick and I am so glad I did. It was fantasy book that reminded me of Juliet Marillier’s Warrior Bard series with it’s writing style and fantasy elements. If you like more lyrical fantasy then I would check this one out. I can’t wait for the next one in this series.

In A New York Minute by Kate Spencer – DNF The premise of this book sounded really cute and I was excited to start it but after getting to about 51% I decided this book was not for me. We are Franny who has just been let go and then has a wardrobe disaster on the subway that gets filmed and goes viral. Her disaster and subsequent meet cute ends up leading her to a few job opportunities. Hayes, who came to her rescue on the subway that day ends up hiring her for a job and the two could not be any more different but they seem to have a mutual attraction. I am not sure what exactly it was about this book that I didn’t connect with but the characters were part of it. I just was not interested in either of Franny or Haye’s story lines or the romance that Im sure was going to come. Let me know if you have read this one and what your thoughts were. Thank you Forever Publishing for my gifted copy for review.

Hi Friends! Im sharing today some March new releases that I am hoping to read at some point! I am most excited for Night Shift, Crowbones, If You Ask Me, and The Book of Cold Cases and will probably read them as soon as I get them!!! What books are you looking forward to next month?

  • Hook Line and Sinker by Tessa Bailey – 3 Stars – 3/1 – Contemporary Romance
  • The Night Shift by Alex Finlay – 3/1 – Thriller
  • By Any Other Name by Lauren Kate – 3/1 – Contemporary Romance
  • The Suite Spot by Trish Doller – 4 Stars – 3/8 – Contemporary Romance
  • Crow Bones by Anne Bishop – 3/8 – Fantasy
  • If You Ask Me by Libby Hubscher – 3/8 – Contemporary Romance
  • The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James – 3/15 – Mystery
  • Dating Dr. Dil by Nisha Sharma – 3/15 – Contemporary Romance

  • American Royalty by Tracey Livesay – 3/15 – Contemporary Romance
  • The Wedding Veil by Kristy Woodson Harvey – 3/29 – Historical Fiction
  • The Resting Place by Camilla Sten – 3/29 – Horror

Reading Round Up – February 1st – 10th

Immortal Rising by Lynsay Sands – 4 Stars This is number 34 in the Argeneau Vampire series and it did not disappoint! We first met our main character Stephanie way back in the series when she was just a teenager. She is now in her ate 20’s and living in a more secluded location to help her manage some of her powers. I have really enjoyed seeing Stephanie’s growth throughout the entire series because she is one of the only characters who has aged since we met them. We also get reintroduced to a character we met a few books back and he could be one of my favorites in the series. Thorne is an experiment that never should have happened, his DNA has been mixed with many other creatures and so he is not very human and has many animal like features. He reminded my of some characters I read about a long time ago in a series by Sara Douglas. Again this book is technically one you can just jump into but I think it makes the reading much better if you have some knowledge of this world and the characters because they all come back eventually in the books. Still highly recommend this series if you love a good paranormal romance! Thank you Avon for my #gifted copy for review.

Hunt The Stars by Jessie Mihalik – 5 Stars I read another book by this author last year called Polaris Rising and after it I knew I would keep reading more for her. She takes a genre that is sometimes more reserved and puts a fun spin on it. Her books are like space shenanigans with romance and I am for them!

Hook, Line, and Sinker by Tessa Bailey – 3 Stars This book follows Hannah, who is the sister to the main character in It Happened One Summer and Fox who we also met in that book. Hannah and Fox have a relationship through music and this was my favorite part of the entire book. At the end of the day they would text each other a song that summed up their day and now I want to do this all the time! Hannah works for a movie producer and she gets him to film back in her home town in Washington and stays with Fox while there. Both characters have some internal problems that they work through in the book but for the most part I just was not invested in either of them. I think this will be last book this author because she just doesn’t work for me. I thought the writing style was great but Im just not a fan of her characters, they don’t grab me and make want to root for them. I do know that I am in the minority for this series and if you like spicy romances set in the Pacific Northeast then you should check them out. I have never been to Washington state but these books make me want to go even more, she writes the town and the water like another character in the book and I really enjoy that. Thank you Avon for my gifted copy for review.

Always Only You by Chloe Liese – 5 Stars (Re-read) Third time but this time I noticed things I was not a fan of and it may have dropped my rating to a 3.5. I will leave it for now because it may just be a mood I am in.

Duke, Actually by Jenny Holiday – 3 Stars I think I might be done with Jenny Holiday or at least her holiday books. I tried reading this book multiple times and it took me almost 2 months to get through it. I just didn’t care about the characters or the plot and at times it felt like watching a Hallmark movie and thats just not for me.

The Fastest Way To Fall by Denise Williams – 3 Stars While I really liked another book by this author this one just feel flat for me. I was never invested in the characters and the book revolved so heavily around fitness and exercising that I just didn’t want to read it, that is just not something I care about and don’t want to read about it. I still liked the author’s writing style so will probably pick up her next book.

The Suite Spot by Trish Doller – 4 Stars Trish Doller’s first book The Float Plan and it was one of my favorite books last year so I was excited for her new release this year and it did not disappoint. We are following single mom Rachel who recently lost her job and decides to accept one on an island in Lake Erie. So she packs up her and her daughter to run a new hotel that is paired with a brewery but when she gets thee she realizes that she has played. The hotel is not even finished yet and her accommodations are to stay in the main house with her daughter and the hotel’s surly owner, Mason. I loved both aspects of this book, the making of the hotel and brewery as well as the relationship between Rachel and Mason. There were sad parts to this book dealing with a loss of a child so be warned and I would check for trigger warnings if you need them. Overall this book was great but I still like her first book more but this one was solid and I highly recommend both of them. Thank you St. Martin’s Griffin for my gifted copy.

Top 5 Tuesday: February 22nd 2022

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @the Bionic Bookworm and is now being hosted by Meeghan @Meeghan Reads. This week’s topic is Top 5 I want to reread in 2022.

I am struggling with this prompt today! I re-read books all the time but it is usually on a whim or because of a buddy read I am in so trying to think ahead of time is hard. I have also been trying hard so far this year ( all of two months ) to read my backlist books on my shelves so re-reading is not on my radar. Here are 5 that I MIGHT get too this year but who knows!

Kulti by Mariana Zapata – I re-read one of hers every few months and this one will probably be my next one.

Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs – Another series I want to get caught up on so I might start back at the beginning.

Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia – One of my favorite reads of 2020 and have been wanting to read it again.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren – Might need to read this to escape my never ending winter here.

The Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier – Now that the series is over I want to go back and re-read it all again.

What are some books that you would like to re-read this year?
