M – Meet Me In Paradise by Libby Hubscher – 4 Stars

A – Anchored Hearts by Priscilla Oliveras – TBR

R – The Royals Next Door by Karina Hale – 5 Stars

C – A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namey

H – How To Walk Away by Katherine Center – 5 Stars

S4S – March 13th

Six for Sunday is a weekly meme created by A Little But A Lot and today’s topic is: characters with floral names.

I had a lot of fun with this prompt! I have also decided that I am going to see if I can grow speedwells in my garden because I love the series so much!!

Veronica Speedwell From the Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn – Veronica is another name for the flower speedwell which has long spikes and comes in a few different colors.

Daisy Jones From Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – A daisy is a small white and yellow flower.

Hazel Camille Bradford From Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren – Hazel is a shrub like tree.

Lily Bard From the Lily Bard Mystery series by Charlaine Harris – a lily is a flower.

Poppy Wyatt From I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella – Poppies are usually bright red flowers with black centers.

Bella Swan Fro the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer – A Bella Palm is a small palm tree plant.

What are some of your favorite characters with floral names?

Reading Round Up – March 1st – 10th

Hello Friends! I am feeling very proud of myself that I am up to date with reviews and reading round up so far for the month! I had a lot of good reading so far for March and its still going good. I am still loving the Veronica Speedwell series and also listening to some new releases that I got from the library. What have you been enjoying so far this month, any new favorites?

A Brush With Love by Mazy Eddings – 4 Stars This was a cute story about two people who are both in med school to be dentists. I have to say that teeth are not my thing, I can not help but gag when my kids loose their teeth so there were some aspects of this book that I had to skip over. With that being said it was still a really cute book but I would look into trigger warnings as this book deals with lots of heavy topics. I enjoyed the romance as well as the personal growth in this book and I would recommend picking this one up!

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn – 5 Stars I picked this one up after seeing a ton of people talking about it over on youtube and I am so glad I did! This is a historical mystery series set in Victoria London and follows Veronica Speedwell and her partner Stoker. The two meet when trying to figure out who murdered an acquaintance of theirs and they work together to try and solve it before Stoker gets arrested for it. This is such a fun ride and I loved every minute of it and the tension between Veronica and Stoker is perfect!

A Perilous Undertaking by Deanna Raybourn – 5 Stars In this one we are following Veronica and Stoker who are asked to solve a murder of a woman before an innocent man is hanged for it. I really enjoyed this one and the secrets that were revealed.

A Treacherous Curse by Deanna Raybourn – 4 Stars Veronica and Stoker are asked to look into a disappearance of a photographer that went missing on an archeological dig in Egypt. This one was still a very fun read but I just didn’t like it as much as the first two.

The Replacement Wife by Darby Kane – 3 Stars I was really excited for this one as I loved her release last year, Pretty Little Wife but this one was just ok for me. This one follows Elisa who has recently suffered a trauma and now rarely. leaves home except to take her son to and from school. We start the story with her suspecting her brother-in-law of doing something to his missing fiancé and we spend the rest of this book figuring out what happened to her. I thought the book was fun but very predictable and nothing really surprised me. There are trigger warnings in tis one for death of a spouse/partner, mass shooting, gaslighting.

A Dangerous Collaboration by Deanna Raybourn – 4 Stars Veronica is asked to pretend to be the fiancé of Stoker’s brother and goes to a house party with him in the hopes of finding out what happened to a missing bride from 3 years earlier. Again this one was a fun read just not my favorite in the series.

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James – 4 Stars This was one of my most anticipated releases for this year and while it didn’t disappoint I didn’t love it as much as I have her two previous books written in this style. This book still has her signature style if you know what I mean. It is told in dual timelines and this was ultimately why I couldn’t give it 5 stars. The first timeline is set 2017 and follows Shea who is a true crime blogger by night and also Beth who was accused of two murders in 1977. Shea ends up meeting Beth and starts interviewing her for the blog. The second timeline is Beth’s perspective in 1977 when the murders took place. Beth’s past timeline is the one I struggled with, I was not interested in it until about halfway through when we learned a key piece of information. Overall this is still a fantastic story and I will continue to praise and push her books on everyone!

Let’s Talk Bookish – March 11th

Friday’s are for The Let’s Talk Bookish Meme which is a weekly meme created and hosted by Rukky@EternityBooks and Dani@Literary Lion and todays topic is: UPDATING OLD CONTENT (NICOLE @ THOUGHTS STAINED WITH INK)

Prompts: Do you ever go back and update older content on your blog? For instance, after getting new graphics or going self-hosted? Why or why not? Do you sometimes curate/clear out old posts that you no longer want published, or rewrite/update them? Do you think people should periodically clean up their old content and update/delete things that don’t align with their current positions/beliefs.

Hello Friends! I hope everyone is having a great week so far! We got more snow dumped on us here in Colorado and I am so over it!! I am ready for warm weather and to lay in my hammock and read my books.

I have never really thought about this topic before but it did make me stop and think about updating my old content. I have been blogging now for just over two years so I do have quite a few posts but for the most part they are pretty bland. I also don’t see my older posts getting attention even from a few weeks ago so I feel like it would just be taking time away from other things I could be doing to update any of my old posts.

I do feel like maybe if there are any posts that contain authors who have since become very problematic that I might just go back and give a small update about that just to make sure people are aware. However, I feel like even that can be a slippery slope because it seems like every week one author or another is being “canceled” or called out for some reason or other.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you go back and update old posts or just leave them as they are? Let me know in the comments below!

Top 5 Tuesday: March 8th 2022

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @the Bionic Bookworm and is now being hosted by Meeghan @Meeghan Reads. This week’s topic is Top 5 books with thrones.

So I struggled with this prompt today and could not come up with any covers that have physical thrones so I went with the word. I also chose books based on covers or that I have on my shelf here at home.

  • The Skull Throne by Peter V. Brett – Fantasy – my husband has read this one so I have seen the cover numerous times and she looks awesome!
  • Frostbound Throne by May Sage – Fantasy – loved the cover and it has a 4.13 on Goodreads
  • The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri – Fantasy – Have this one on my TBR shelf
  • For The Throne by Hannah Whitten – Fantasy – read the first one and it was ok but the ratings for this one are a lot better so far, might have to read it when it comes out.
  • A Throne of Ruin by K.F. Breene – Fantasy/Romance – Again has a great Goodreads rating and I love the cover!

What are some books with thrones on the cover that you like?

Reading Round Up: February 21st – 28th

Hi Friends! I feel like I am doing good getting my last round up for February in the first week of March! I finished 7 books in this last 7 days because most of these I was taking my time reading because they were going very slowly for me. The Soulmate Equation was my favorite and I am so glad I finally got to it.

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren – 5 Stars I am so over the snow here in CO and this book made me jealous for San Diego in the spring! I have had this book since it came out last year but kept putting it off because I haven’t enjoyed their last few books. Why did I wait this long!!!! This one was so good and I literally read it in less than 24 hours. Now after reading a romance that is about a dating service that matches you based on DNA I feel like I need to read The One by John Mars and get the sci-fi take on it.

Capture The Crown by Jennifer Estep – 4 Stars I received Capture The Crown in an @unpluggedbookbox from July of last year and on one hand Im sad it took me so long but on the other I don’t have to wait as long for book 2! This is a fantasy book that follows a princess who moonlights as a spy and ends up in her enemies court and spends a lot of time with their prince! There is no steam in this book as it is a fantasy but there are hints of romance to come and I am ready for it! This one was a fun read and I am excited to read her next book.

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano – 3 Stars  I was not a fan of the first book in this series and I was not going to pick up this one but I got the audio from the library. This book is cozy mystery like but also has some steam. This follows a woman who is a struggling author and has two small kids and gets mistaken as a contract killer and hilarity ensues from there. I thought the last 20% made this book enjoyable and will probably pick up the next one because of fomo.

A Fate of Wrath & Flame by K.A. Tucker – 3 Stars I liked the beginning and again the last 20% was enjoyable but the middle slogged hard! This is a fantasy romance but is way more into the fantasy than the romance. It follows a woman who gets transported to another realm that is not set in the modern world and the body she gets put into looks like hers but she had just killed the ruling couple and has started a war. The premise was good I just didn’t like the way the world building was done. I will probably pick up the next in the series because of the ending.

Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto – 2 Stars  Not a lot to say with this one except I don’t get it, was not a fan. A woman accidently kills her date and then gets the help from her mom and 3 aunts to get rid of the body. I felt like the character was immature and the premise just didn’t do it for me. This was also considered a romance but that was like maybe 10% of the book and some of that was flashbacks. Will not be continuing this series.

A Flicker In The Dark by Stacy Willingham – 3 Stars I had such high hopes for this one but wasn’t really wowed by it. This one follows Chloe who as a child saw her dad arrested and imprisoned for killing teenage girls and in present times is seeing the same thing happening again even though her dad is still in prison. I thought the writing was ok but the ending didn’t shock me and I needed a little more info on a few plot points. Over all it was good and I will probably pick up more from this author in the future.

Love On The Lake by Helena Hunting – 4 Stars. I will say I enjoyed this one and will have a more in depth review during the blog tour.
