Reading Round Up – July 1st – 10th

Hello Friends. I hope everyones month is going well. I feel like mine has been really hectic lately and I am definitely not reading as much as I normally do. All four of these books were listened to on audio with a little physically reading mixed in.

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave – 4 Stars This one is classified as a thriller but it should have been called contemporary fiction with a small mystery. While I really enjoyed this one it wasn’t a thriller. This follows Hannah who has recently married Owen and is a step mother to his 16 year old daughter Bailey. One day Owen disappears and just leaves a note saying to protect his daughter. Hannah and Bailey decide to find out what is going on and in the process learn to lean on each other. I really enjoyed this one, it was pretty slow paced and read more like a mystery but still really well written. If you want something a little slower paced then I would recommend this one.

What If You and Me by Roni Loren – Stars Thank you so much Sourcebooks Casablanca for my giveaway win and Librofm for my alc (advanced listening copy) of What If You And Me by Roni Loren. I liked her first book in the series but I loved this one more! Our main character is a horror writer and lover of the genre! Her neighbor is a sexy firefighter who mistakenly thinks she is being hurt because of the movie she is watching 😂 this is now one of my favorite meet cutes!! These don’t really need to be read in order but characters do show up in both books. Highly recommend checking this one out!

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones – 4 Stars The Last Good Indian by @stephengrahamjones. This book follows 4 men who ten years earlier where out hunting and something happened that is now seeking vengeance. This book is pretty dark and there are some graphic descriptions and some of it with animals so if you are sensitive to that then beware. This was my first book by him and I really enjoyed it, his writing style is a little different but once you get used to it I felt it flowed well. I really liked this one and can’t wait to read more from him. Plus he is a fellow Coloradon as well! Thank you @librofm for my review copy!!

Ring Shout by P. Djeli Clark – 4 Stars I am not sure how to review this one! It mixes so many genres like horror, fantasy and historical fiction. This is like an alternative history and takes place in the 1920’s in the south and is about monster hunters. The monsters they are hunting are called Klu Kluxes and they are not human. If you want a wild short story then you should pick this one up. Also the audio was fantastic!! Can’t wait to read more from P. Djeli Clark.
