Chasing Serenity, an all new sexy and swoony opposites attract standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley, is available now!
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley brings a new novel in her River Rain series…
From a very young age, Chloe Pierce was trained to look after the ones she loved.
And she was trained by the best.
But when the man who looked after her was no longer there, Chloe is cast adrift—just as the very foundation of her life crumbled to pieces.
Then she runs into tall, lanky, unpretentious Judge Oakley, her exact opposite. She shops. He hikes. She drinks pink ladies. He drinks beer. She’s a city girl. He’s a mountain guy.
Obviously, this means they have a blowout fight upon meeting. Their second encounter doesn’t go a lot better.
Judge is loving the challenge. Chloe is everything he doesn’t want in a woman, but he can’t stop finding ways to spend time with her. He knows she’s dealing with loss and change.
He just doesn’t know how deep that goes. Or how ingrained it is for Chloe to care for those who have a place in her heart, how hard it will be to trust anyone to look after her…
Kristen Ashley is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty romance novels including the Rock Chick, Colorado Mountain, Dream Man, Chaos, Unfinished Hero, The ’Burg, Magdalene, Fantasyland, The Three, Ghost and Reincarnation, Moonlight and Motor Oil and Honey series along with several standalone novels. She’s a hybrid author, publishing titles both independently and traditionally, her books have been translated in fourteen languages and she’s sold over three million books.

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created byShanah @the Bionic Bookwormand is now being hosted byMeeghan @Meeghan Reads. This week’s topic is Top 5 retellings. I love retellings, they are some of my favorite types of books to read. I especially love Jane Austen and Beauty and the Beast retellings. I have read so many different takes on Pride and Prejudice and they very rarely disappoint. I also love Juliet Marillier, I know I talk about her quite a bit on here and she does fantastic retellings. Robin McKinley is another great fantasy author who takes fairytales and transforms them. Here are 5 retellings that I have really enjoyed.
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier – retelling of The Wild Swans
Captain Wentworth’s Diary by Amanda Grange – retelling of Persuasion by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice Graphic Novel
Hearts Blood by Juliet Marillier – retelling of Beauty and the Beast
Spindle’s End by Robin McKinley – retelling of Sleeping Beauty

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created byShanah @the Bionic Bookwormand is now being hosted byMeeghan @Meeghan Reads. This week’s topic is Top 5 books with people on the cover. I honestly had a very hard time picking just 5 covers. I am a sucker for the more realistic looking covers! I have a bonus one in here for Sylvia Moreno-Garcia, her covers are gorgeous!!!
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno – Garcia
Velvet Was The Night bu Sylvia Moreno – Garcia
When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton
Enchanter by Sara Douglass
A Dance of Fate by Juliet Marillier
Written in Red by Anne Bishop
What are some of your favorite books that have people on the cover?
Happy last day of August friends! I am here with my second round up for the month! This one was a pretty easy one to get done but my last one for the month is going to be a doosey! I honestly don’t think I could pick a favorite this month because they were all great books and in different genres but For Your Own Good probably wins by a tiny fraction!
With You Forever by Chloe Liese – 4 Stars Chloe Liese has become an auto but author for me. Her Bergman Brother’s series just does not disappoint. This book 4 and we are following Axel who is the loner of the family and likes to live his quiet life up in Washington state. Rooney is his little brother’s girlfriends best friend who has become a part of his family and the attraction is mutual but neither one wants to act on it. Rooney needing some time alone to reflect goes to the Bergman’s mountain property but it turns out that Axel is there doing some major repairs so what follows is the two of them having to share a one room cabin! So if you love the trope of forced proximity and only one bed you should check this one out. It is also a grump and sunshine which I am a total sucker for! I can’t wait for the next Bergman story! Thank you Netgalley and Chloe Liese for my gifted copy for review!
Highland Wolf by Lynsay Sands – 4 Stars Lynsay Sands has been an auto buy author for me for YEARS!! I love her Argeneau Vampire series and I love her Highland Bride series. Highland Wolf is book 10 in Highland series and it is following Claray MacFarlane who is being held captive and is about to be forced to marry a man against her and her father’s wishes. On the way to the alter poor Claray is abducted again but this time it is by a man known as The Wolf. What Claray doesn’t know is that she and The Wolf share a history and her father sent him to rescue her. Claray is this soft hearted woman who befriends all animals and has a menagerie for her rescued friends. At first The Wolf is annoyed by this but then just comes to accept it. I read a review that said this was a very unbelievable trait in a character and while I agree I don’t mind it at all, I found that this trait would offer humor at the right times. One of my favorite scenes is when her rescued ferret was riding on the back of her pet wolf like a soldier going into battle, yes that will never happen but the picture in my head was perfect. I love how Lynsay crafts her stories and while she has written dozens they each have their own voice and I always look forward to reading them. Thank you Avon and Harper Voyager for my gifted copy for review!
For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing – 4.5 Stars After DNF’ing Samantha Downing’s first two books I was a little skeptical about this one but I am so glad I picked it up. I felt that this one was more mystery than thriller. It was a slower story about a teacher Teddy, at this private school who is very self centered and does not like that his students are all entitled. We also follow one of the students that Teddy has decided needs to be brought down a peg or two and also a string of recent deaths. This book was very addicting to read and I couldn’t put it down because I just needed to know what happens next! I keep hearing this book described as dark academia but I wouldn’t really classify it as that because its more about the people than then the actual school. Highly recommend this one!
