Reading Round Up: December Part 2

The Gentleman’s Gambit by Evie Dunmore – 4 Stars This is book 4 in the League of Extraordinary Women series that follow a group of friends as they try to get more rights for women in late 1800’s England. This one follows bookish Catriona and Elias who is posing as a scholar for a means to an end in his business. I really enjoyed all aspects of this book and am going to miss this series now that it is finished.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl – 4 Stars I picked this one up on a whim after wondering which movie is more like the book. I think both movies have elements of the book but I am not going to lie, the Gene Wilder Wonka is still the best but this book was almost as good. I just love all the visuals from the movies! Hoping to get to Matilda this year!

The Lilly of Ludgate Hill by Mimi Matthews – 5 Stars This was my favorite of the month and I have been anticipating since last year when book 2 came out. This one is a second chance romance that really worked for me. Lady Anne and Felix were once very attached but after losing her father Anne retreats from society and Felix goes on with his life. Years later the two are reunited and the sparks are still there after all these years. This one was very entertaining and swoony and I loved every minute of it. This series is great overall as well.

The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden – 4 Stars This was an easy and fun thriller but not too many surprises, you could see where things were going from the beginning. I would like to try a few other books from this author so hopefully I get in the mood for mysteries soon!
