Reading Round Up: March Part 1

Hi Friends! How is everyone’s March going so far? Mine is going well, we ended hockey season for both kids but soccer immediately started for my eldest but I have small break before my youngest goes into spring hockey. My reading is also going well and I am happy with the amount as well as the books themselves that I have read. Of my first 5 books my favorite is the romance Ruby Spencer’s Whisky Year but I honestly didn’t hate any of the books which is always a good thing!

Even Though I Knew The End by C.L. Polk – 3.5 Stars Rounded up to a 4 on goodreads. I really enjoyed this one even though I am not usually a fan of novellas. It’s a mix of magic with noir mystery set around the 30’s and 40’s. I really enjoyed the characters and the mystery that we are following and I hope we get more stories from this world!

Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey – 3 Stars After reading this one for about 3 weeks and finishing multiple books during that time I finally finished it. This is the first book in the Expanse series and follows a small crew as they try and basically save the universe. Over all I enjoyed this one as I love space operas but we follow two pov’s and I really struggled with one of them and just never liked when it was their turn. I’m still undecided if I should continue on the series so if you have read it let me know your thoughts.

Ruby Spencer’s Whiskey Year by Rochelle Bilow – 4 Stars This was a cute romance that follows Ruby as she decides to move to Scotland to write a cookbook. Once there things don’t go quite as planned but ends up making a different kind of life for herself. I really enjoyed the journey that Ruby goes on with finding out what she really wants out of life. I am also a sucker for a non-talking grump who has an accent! Loved the audio book for this one.

A Sinister Revenge by Deanna Raybourn – 4 Stars This is book 8 in The Veronica Speedwell series and I was so excited to get to this one because of the ending of book 7!!! These books follow Veronica and Stoker as they get involved in shenanigans and must solve the murder or crime. This one involves Stoker’s brother Tiberius who thinks someone is trying to kill him. So Veronica and Stoker must go to his childhood home to find out who wants his brother dead. I love when Tiberius is part of the book as he is one of my favorite side characters. Highly recommend this series but it needs to be read in order.

The Angel Maker by Alex North – 3.5 Stars I recently finished this one and have been trying to collect my thoughts on it. Im still not sure if I understand everything that happened 😂. Even though I am confused I still enjoyed this one! I love Alex North’s writing style and how invested I get into the story and characters. I listened to this and also read it at the same time and the audio was great but I did get a little lost because of the time jumps as well as switching pov’s. This story follows Katie who was a part of a traumatic accident involving her brother. Years later he is missing and Katie is asked by her mother to look for him. At the same time we are also following a pair of detectives investigating a murder. I really enjoyed all the perspectives and was invested in all of them. Highly recommend this creepy thriller! Thank you @celadonbooks and @netgalley for my #gifted copies!
