Let’s Talk Bookish – August 13th

Friday’s are for The Let’s Talk Bookish Meme which is a weekly meme created and hosted by Rukky@EternityBooks and Dani@Literary Lion and todays topic is: CAN BOOKS BE EFFECTIVE HORROR? (DANI)

I am pretty excited for this prompt as I have started adding more horror books to my reading and am really enjoying the ones I am picking up.

Some people love to be scared – others not so much. When it comes to reading do you think books can be scary? Absolutely and in more than one way. So far the scariest book I have read is a YA book called Horrid by Katrina Leno, I couldn’t even finish it because I was so disturbed. I am hoping to finish it this fall.

Are you less scared because there are no pictures? Not at all, one of my favorite parts of reading is how I see it in my head. I wouldn’t say I see a movie but I do get a pretty good visual in my head while reading.

Do you feel other mediums such as film are more effective for horror? Yes!! I am a big chicken and pretty much refuse to watch scary movies. I honestly think The Ring is the only scary movie I have seen besides a few of the Screams and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I am hoping to get a few more under my belt this year because my husband always wants to watch scary movies together.

Have you ever been kept up at night by a book?  I would if I read scary books at night but I know myself and I only read my more tame books before bed.

Here are a few horror books I have read or am planning on reading.

  • The Only Good Indians – 4 Stars
  • Mexican Gothic – 5 Stars
  • Horrid – DNF but going to finish this year
  • My Heart Is A Chainsaw – TBR
  • My Best Friend’s Exorcism – TBR

Do you think books can be scary?
