Reading Round Up: August Part 1

Summer Reading by Jenn McKinley – 4 Stars This one is set in a small coastal town and really gives off the summer vibes which is what I was looking for in my summer reads! This book had great rep for dyslexia and even had a specific font that is supposed to be easier to read. It is about a woman returning to her small town and reconnecting with family while also finding love with a hot librarian! It was so cute!

With Love, From Cold World by Alicia Thompson – 5 Stars I recently finished With Love, From Cold World by @aliciabooks and I think I loved it more than the last book! This was such a fun romance with some 🌶️🌶️🌶️ time! I loved the winter theme park setting especially since it took place in Florida ❄️☀️. Can’t wait to read what comes next! Thank you @this_is_edelweiss and @berkleyromance for my #gifted copy for review!

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin – 5 Stars Dark Corners is one of my favorite thrillers so far for the year. I was a little worried going into this one as I have not read the first but there was no need to worry! @megangoldinauthor did a great job recapping the first book without info dumping. I was hooked from the very beginning and the pace was perfect to keep wanting to read one more chapter. Highly recommend checking this one out even if you haven’t read The Night Swim. This book follows crime journalist and podcaster Rachel Krall as she is asked by the FBI to come talk with an inmate as her name is the only clue they have in their current case. I loved getting Rachel’s pov plus her podcast as well as two other pov’s. Thank you @stmartinspress for my #gifted copy for review.

Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas – 3.5 Stars The Hacienda was one of my favorite books last year so I couldn’t wait to read The Vampires of El Norte! This is set in Mexico in the 1830’s and follows Nena as she tries to help her people with a mysterious illness while also dealing with the return of her first love Nestor. I loved the blend of horror, historical timeframes and the romance between Nena and Nestor! Thank you @berkleypub@this_is_edelweiss and for my #gifted copy! And as soon as I saw this was a pick for @bookofthemonth I knew I had to add it to my shelf!

Every Duke Has His Day by Suzanne Enoch – 4 Stars As some of you know I am not usually of fan of animals being part of a plot in a romance but this one really worked for me!! The meet cute in this is one of my favorites! We have an eccentric Duke who doesn’t like to socialize and of course a Diamond of the season! Both the Duke and Bitsy own black poodles but one is very well behaved and the other is a menace! After a chance meeting in the park and a little mishap the Duke and Bitsy go home with the wrong dogs and from there the story only gets better!! I highly recommend this one if you are looking for a fun read! Thank you @smpromancefor my #gifted copy!!

Never Met A Duke Like You by Amelia Howard – 3.5 Stars Compared to the historical romance I read right before this one just wasn’t quite up to it’s standard. We follow Vesper who is very popular and gives off an Emma vibe (which is my least favorite Austen heroine). And then of course we get her grumpy neighbor who is back to fix his family fortunes. The two were one childhood friends but had a falling out and now as adults they still are not very friendly with one another. Of course this is a romance so the two are thrown together and things change. I will say that this one deals with some heavier topics including how people who may have had some mental conditions were treated during this time. Thank you Forever for my gifted copy! This one is out November 14th.

Reading Round Up: July Part 2

Alright friends here is my second part to my July reads!! Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts?

Good Bad Girl by Alice Feeney – 4 Stars Alice Feeney is one of my go to thriller authors, I find her books to be a good time. Good Bad Girl was full of twists that kept me guessing. In this one we follow four different woman’s perspectives as they try to figure out how a child went missing 20 years ago is connected to a murder in a retirement home. Thank you @this_is_edelweiss and @flatiron_books for my gifted copy for review!

Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood – 4.5 Stars This is Ali Hazelwood’s first YA book and It might be one of my favorites so far! I am not typically a fan of YA but this one is set after high school so this really helps for me. I will say my one qualm with this book is that at times the main characters did not act like they were 18 and 20 years old, at times they seemed way older than this. All that to say I still really enjoyed this romance about two world champion chess players. After loving the show The Queen’s Gambit this was a fun read! This one comes out November 7th. Thank you to G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books and my work for my gifted copy to read!

Resonance Surge by Nalini Singh – 4 Stars I always love when we get a new Psy-Changeling book and this one is sooo good! If you love good paranormal/urban fantasy romance than I highly recommend this series!! It’s hard to give details about this one because it is so deep into the series and these are not stand alones. In this one we go back to the Stonewater Bear clan as well as with the Psy. I have loved the twins Yakov and Pavel since we first met them and I loved seeing their relationships come to light. Also Arwen! I really can not rave about this series enough!! Thank you  @this_is_edelweiss and @berkleyromance for my #gifted copy!

Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan – 4 Stars This one was a great summer read as it is set in small coastal town and really gives off the summer vibes! This one follows Sam as she is returning home to her small town on Long Island where she spent her summers. While there she reconnects with her first love and also her old self. I really enjoy this author’s books, about woman finding themselves as well as a happy ever after.

October (Maybe) TBR

Hi Friends! Here is my very short TBR for October. I am not reading a ton which I have stated numerous times now but just in case you are new here. I am feeling spooky and thriller vibes for this month but will probably throw in some rom-cons as well. What books are you hoping to read this month?

For Kayla’s Buzzword – Magic words

  • I have a few options for this one so will just have to see what I feel like reading

Again these are all books that I would like to read soon but I know I probably won’t get to most of these. What are you reading this month? Are you participating in any fun reading challenges?

Reading Round Up: July Part 1

Hi Friends! I seem to be on a small role so here’s hoping it continues! July was a little bit better of a reading month for me, I read 8 books!! Change of Plans was probably my favorite of the month.

Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston – 4.5 Stars After loving The Dead Romantics last year I was so excited to read The Seven Year Slip!! This story follows Clementine who is struggling with loss and moves into her aunts apartment. Her aunt always told her the apartment was magic and could send people back in time. Clementine always loved this story and one day she too stepped back in time and met Iwan. I find it hard to come up with the right words for this one other than I loved it and can’t wait for more from @heyashposton!! I have some of her ya backlist that I really want to get to soon! Thank you @berkleyromance for my #gifted copy!!

Capture The Sun by Jessie Mihalik – 3.5 rounded up to a 4 – Jessie Mihalik is one of my favorite sci-fi romance authors! I always enjoy her books because you get as much romance as you do plot outside of the romance. Capture The Sun is book 3 in a series that follows a group of individuals who are trying to stop an intergalactic war. Technically this can be read as a stand alone but with all the plot points happening it is best to read in order. Thank you @bibliolifestyle and @harpervoyagerus for my #gifted copy for review!

Change of Plans by Dylan Newton – 5 Stars This is the third one in the series that follows a group of friends and three brothers who live in a small town. In this story we have Bryce who after a tragic accident is left as the main caregiver for her three nieces. While out grocery shopping she meets Ryker, the grumpy Matthew’s brother and probably my favorite. This was such a cute and fun story about not only Bryce and Ryker but also with Bryce and her three nieces. I loved this one so much and highly recommend it!!! Thank you Forever and Netgalley for my gifted copy!

Before She Finds Me by Heather Chavez – 4 Stars Thank you  @mulhollandbooks,  @this_is_edelweiss and @librofm for my #gifted copies! It took me a little a while to get through this one but that was only because of my slow reading this year! This was a fun cat and mouse type thriller and each chapter gave you a little bit more of the puzzle. I also loved the dual narration, one from a mom who saved her daughter from a shooting on campus and the second from a contract killer. Highly recommend this one!!

Reading Round Up: June

Long time no talk to friends! Here is a very quick summery of the books I read in June! I hope everyone is doing well. My life is super busy and I am finding it hard to balance everything I have going on. Hopefully I can get a handle on things soon.

The Sweetheart List by Jill Shalvis – 4 Stars Jill Shalvis’s books are some of my favorite reads because you always know what you are going to get from. Her books are always filled with great friendships and heartwarming stories. If you are a fan of small town’s and a grumpy hero than I would check out this one! Thank you Avon and netgalley for my gifted copy for review.

Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood – 5 Stars I am so late with this post! I wrote it out on Wednesday and never published it so here it is! I didn’t work yesterday so I wasn’t able to get a pic of this beauty till today!!! I absolutely loved this book! I read it so fast and I already want to read it again! This is by far my favorite from @alihazelwoodso far. Thank you @this_is_edelweiss and @berkleyromance for my #gifted copy!

How To Honeymoon Alone by Olivia Hale – 4 Stars. This was such a fun book to read! We follow Eden who after dumping her recent fiancé goes on her honeymoon alone. While there she keeps bumping into fellow single traveler Phillip. The two end up spending a lot of time together and I loved reading about all their vacation excursions! If you want a fun and steamy vacation read then I would pick this one up. Thank you to the author and Indie Author’s Apprentice for my gifted copy of the book.

Calamity by Constance Fay – 4 Stars I am a sucker for a good space romance and this one delivered! Temperance is trying to keep her small crew together after the captain ran off with their intern. New member to the crew Arcadio just rubs Temperance the wrong way. As the two work closely together sparks start to fly and I could not put this one down! I love the mix of politics, adventure and romance in space!! Thank you Bramble and Edelweiss for my gifted copy. This one comes out November 14th.

Play For Me by Libby Hubscher – 4 Stars I finished Play For Me by Libby Hubscher and really enjoyed it! This is opposites attract where we have a sports therapist who recently had a bad run with her MLB team and takes a job at high school geared towards artists and not athletes. While there she bumps heads with her new roommate and fellow teacher who happens to be a classical pianist. This one still doesn’t beat her first book but it was a close second! Thank you @berkleyromance and @this_is_edelweiss for my #gifted copy!!

Reading Round Up: May

Well another month has passed without me posting. I was really hoping August was going to be a better month for me but apparently not. I am going to try again in September and hopefully I have better results! So here is a really late May round up and because it was so long ago they may be short and sweet revies!

The Last Word by Katy Birchall – 4 Stars This is my third book by Katy Birchall and I think it is my favorite! While usually not a fan of second chance romances this one just really hit the spot! We follow reporters Harper and Ryan as the deal with trying to work together as well as ignore the tension they have had for the last decade. While the beginning was a little slow the book soon picked up and I couldn’t put it down! Thank you @smpromance for my #gifted copy for review!

The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead – 5 Stars This one is a follow up to Ashley’s debut romance last year but the good news is that they don’t need to be read in order. I was surprised to like these as much as I did because I am really not a fan of politics but there is just something about her writing that makes these books so easy to binge. Highly recommend this one if you are a fan of fake dating and actual rom coms! Thank you Edelweiss and Graydon House for my gifted copy!

Falling Hard For The Royal Guard by Megan Clawson – 4 Stars I don’t remember a lot of details about this one other than it takes place in London and follows a woman who had a bad break up and then falls for a Royal Guard. While the details are fuzzy I can say that the feelings it still gives me is happiness and enjoyment. I remember really liking it and laughing out loud a few times. This is one that I will probably re-read in the near future.

The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe – Stars I am a sucker for space operas with a lot of romance! This one was really fun, we had planet exploration, bodyguard romances, hidden identities and great world building. If you enjoy fun romances and politics in Space then this one might be for you. Also book 2 comes out later this month (September). Thank you Orbit and Edelweiss for my gifted copy for review.

Once More With Feeling by Elissa Sussman – 4 Stars After loving Funny You Should Ask I was so excited for this one!! I really enjoyed this one just as much as the first plus all the musical references is great! Thank you @penguinrandomhouse and @this_is_edelweiss for my #gifted copy for review!!
