Hello Friends! Here is my first round up for September and I read all really good books this month!
Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen – 4 Stars I love when a book has a bit of magical realism and it’s just part of the story and never really explained why it’s happening. Sarah Addison Allen does this so well and I have always enjoyed her books when I pick them up. I knew I was going to love this one when I read the line “But then, an invisible bird made no sense by definition.” This story is about the family you are born with and the family you make. It’s multiple pov which I love and takes place in a small island town off the coast of South Carolina.
Better Hate Than Never by Chloe Liese – 5 Stars This one is the second book in a series about three sisters and we are getting to know Kate and Christopher who we met in Book 1. While I liked the first one this book really gave me what I wanted and I have no idea what that was. This is enemies to friends/lovers and I was here for all the animosity between the two! Chloe Liese is an auto buy for me and this book solidified that she will be staying there!
Faking Christmas by Kerry Winfrey – 4 Stars I have loved Kerry Winfrey since Waiting For Tom Hanks and Faking Christmas was another fun read from her! This was a fun rom-com about Laurel who accidentally leads her boss to believe that she runs a farm with her husband and kids when in fact it is her sister who does. After a weird turn of events Laurel’s boss invites himself to her family’s Christmas where she pretends to be married to a man she hates and hilarity ensues. While I am not usually a fan of holiday romances I do love a good enemies to lovers and this one really delivers! Thank you Berkley and Edelweiss for my gifted copy!
Drowning by T.J. Newman – 4 Stars Drowning was an intense thriller that follows a group of strangers trapped in an airplane under the ocean. I don’t recommend if you are afraid of flying but man was this a good one! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. Thank you @simonandschuster and @bndenverwest for my #giftedcopy.

For Kayla’s Buzzword – I have not been keeping up with this one very well so I am hoping to have filled each prompt by the end of the year. Right now I have 7/12.
Goodreads Goal – 60/125 = 48 % I am trying to decide if I should lower this to 100 because my reading has been so much lower for me this year.

The three Ws are: What are currently reading? What have you finished reading? What will you read next?
What are you currently reading?
The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall -Still not far into this one but I am enjoying it and now that I finished my other physical book this one should go pretty quick.
What did you recently finish reading?
The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young – 4.5 Stars
After The Forest by Kell Woods – 4 Stars
What do you think you’ll read next?
I am hoping to get to an arc and maybe some witchy romances before the end of the month but honestly who knows!
What are you currently reading? Let me know in the comments below!
Hello friends! I know it’s a little late but here is the rest of my round up from August. September should go quicker as I read 7 books for the month. August was a really great month for me and I did add a few new favorites to my list after this month.
Forget Me Not by Julie Soto – 5 Stars I picked this one up on a whim after seeing a lot on my instagram and I am really glad I did. I don’t know if it was just really great timing or what but this book really hit the spot for me. This is a second chance romance that follows a wedding planner and a florist who have to work together on a wedding after not talking in years. I don’t think it’s any secret on here that I love a grumpy main character and Elliott really was the perfect grump! There is a lot of wedding talk in this and that is my only criticism but thats just because I don’t like weddings. Highly recommend this one.
Between Us by Mhairi McFarland – 3 Stars Thank you @avonbooks for my #gifted copy! One of the great things about working in a bookstore is I can always find the physical book for my pictures 😂 This one felt more woman’s fiction than romance and I have quite a few complaints about that. I was not prepared for the first half for our main character to still be in a committed relationship and is with him for over 50% and then we don’t get anything till 75% with the new love interest. I thought this was all handled well and there was no cheating or hints of it, I was just expecting something different from the story. Overall the story and writing was good I just was expecting something else than what I got. If you have enjoyed the author’s other books than you should pick this one up.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt – 5 Stars This book was so good and I am so sad I put it off for so long!!!!! I don’t normally read fiction, I like my romances and my murders but everyone in awhile I pick one up and it becomes an all time favorite. This book was full of so much goodness that ai don’t know where to begin. We follow a seventy year old aquarium janitor who has no family left in her life, a young man trying to find his father and a giant pacific octopus in the aquarium. I loved all three characters and how the wove together but my favorite was by far Marcellus the octopus. Needless to say I am now slightly obsessed with octopuses! If you pick this one up I would highly recommend the audio!!
Never Wager With A wallflower by Virginia Heath – 3 Stars Sometimes reviews are really hard to write not only because you read them too long ago but also some books just don’t need a lot. This would be one of those. This is the third in a historical romance series that follows three sisters and we get the youngest’s story here. Venus is almost considered a spinster but is determined to marry a man who has similar ideas to her unfortunately though he doesn’t seem interested. However, after some run in’s with her brother-in-law’s grumpy cousin Galahad things start to change. While I still enjoyed this story over all I just got really tired of Venus at times and wished she would get her head out of the clouds. While this wasn’t my favorite in this series I still think the series is a fun one and if you like historical rom-coms than I would check it out. Thank you St. Martin’s Griffin for my gifted copy for review you can pick this one up on November 7th.
The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter – 5 Stars I was “pressured” into reading this by some friends on instagram and man am I glad I listened to them. This book was hilarious and I enjoyed every minute of it. It gave off Knight and Day vibes which is one of my favorite movies. This story follows Alex(?) who just woke up on a street in Paris with no memory and is being chased by men with guns and the hottest guy she has ever seen is telling her to run. Alex and Mr. Hottie go on the run as they try to find Alex’s identical twin who seems to be a spy. Again this book was hilarious and non stop, it is insta love so if you are not a fan of that you might want to tread cautiously but I still think this book works and should be read. Thank you Avon for my gifted copy for review!
Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross – 5 Stars I loved the two adult books I read by Rebecca Ross but kept putting this one off because it was a YA book. I shouldn’t have worried because I absolutely loved it and am now anxiously awaiting the sequel! It took awhile for me to get invested but once I did I was hooked! Of course now I have to wait till December for the next book so Im real glad I put this one off for awhile! This is a fun mix of historical and magical. The world felt like early 1900’s WWI era and both main characters are journalists and end up going to the frontline of the war that is taking over the home. Instead of guns and bombs the people are fighting demons and unseen dangers brought about the fighting gods. I really liked the world that was created!
Begin Again by Emma Lord – 3.5 Stars YA is really not my favorite genre but I read two this month! This was my second and I actually enjoyed this one as well. I think what works for me is when the main characters are not in high school and in this one they are in college. We follow Andie as she transfers from a community college to a 4 year to be closer to her boyfriend who also transferred to be closer to her. Andie struggles with her place at school but soon makes friends including her grumpy RA Milo. If you are wanting a fun and cute romance and like YA then I would pick this one up!
