Reading Round Up: October Part 2

Hi Friends, I am finally here with my second round up for October. I have been pretty slow in my reading this month and am pretty much caught up on my reviews! These were all great books but my favorite was probably my re-read of Beard In Mind.

Beard in Mind by Penny Reid – Reread – 5 Stars This one was a re-read for me and I still loved it. I love the Winston family so much and I always getting to read from this family again. This story follows Beau and Shelley and their story is one of my favorites but it is also one of the harder hitting books in the series. This book does have heavier topics and trigger warnings might be needed.

Never Rescue A Rogue by Virginia Heath – 4 Stars This is book two in The Merriwell Sister’s series and follows the middle sister Diana. Diana works for the newspaper writing columns about the Ton as well as harder hitting pieces but her family thinks she just proofreads the other writers. This story follows Diana as she helps her friend Giles try and uncover some family history that he wants to keep hidden. I really loved the writing in this story there were so many good lines in this book but my favorite was; “I haven’t refused. I’ve loved her since the moment she lambasted me with her first pithy set-down and really cannot wait to spend all eternity shackled to the prickly minx. She feels the same.” He smiled at her and she smiled back. “Don’t you?” “He’s my fungus.” He’s my fungus!!! I loved this line so much and really summed up the entire relationship between the two characters! I also loved all the interactions between Diana and Giles as well as Giles’s man servant Dalton! Dalton was such a fun character and really would have liked to have had more time with him. I think they also hinted at the end of this book who might be the love interest for the last Merriwell and I really hope it’s who I think it is! After thoroughly enjoying this book I decided to go back and read first book in this series that has been sitting on my kindle since last year and so far I am loving it! Thank you St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for my #gifted copy for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet – 4 Stars I picked this fantasy series up on a whim after seeing book 4 talked about over on instagram. I really enjoyed this one and liked the world that the story takes place in. We follow Cat who is kidnapped by Griffin and his team that includes Carver, Kato and Flynn. The relationships were some of my favorite aspects of this book and not just the romance. If you are looking for a fun fantasy romance then I would check this one out.

The Belle of Belgrave Square by Mimi Matthews – 4 Stars After loving The Siren of Sussex earlier this year I was so excited for this one but it kind of fell flat for me. It was described as a marriage of convenience but it took way to long to get there for that to be a real factor me. This one follows Julia who is trying to escape her family and their arranged marriage and Captain Jasper Blunt who was known for his ruthlessness in the Crimea War. I liked both of the characters and their story was nice I just wished the pacing was a little better and that things happened sooner. I am still excited to continue with this series though.

Folk Around and Find Out by Penny Reid – 4 Stars I really enjoyed this one and you can see my thoughts on it when I post my review for the blog tour. Thank you Social Butterfly PR for my gifted copy.

Release Blitz: Folk Around and Find Out by Penny Reid

He needs to get her out of his system. Just once…

Folk Around and Find out, a small town, second chance contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid is now available!

Hank Weller doesn’t help people. He leaves that do-gooder nonsense to his best friend, Beau Winston. Hank does what he wants, when he wants, with whomever he wants—and Hank does not want to hire Charlotte Mitchell to be an exotic dancer at his club, The Pink Pony. Sure, he can’t help noticing the dips and curves of her, how shrewd, smart, and funny she is, the fire in her hazel eyes. He’s always noticed. She’d probably draw a crowd and entice the regulars. But after Charlotte’s messy, public divorce made Hank’s club out to be the culprit—and made her the single mother of four kids—he doesn’t need or want any additional bad press courtesy of Charlotte Mitchell. Or the distraction. Unfortunately for him, the town’s prettiest charity case doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words nope, no, and never.

Charlotte Mitchell doesn’t much like Hank Weller. Once upon a time, she used to. Years ago, she liked him a whole heckofalot despite other folks in town labeling him as “eccentric” and “nonconformist,” which were polite southern alternatives to “filthy rich” and “self-centered douchebag.” Her opinion of him changed dramatically after he volunteered to be her date to junior prom and then promptly stood her up. They haven’t so much as acknowledged each other in over a decade. But a sudden family emergency means Charlotte needs access to Hank’s club ASAP. Unfortunately for her, the narcissistic fancy-pants doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words help, generosity, and compassion.

But he’s about to find himself schooled. Charlotte is going to teach Hank a lesson once and for all about basic human decency, whether he likes it or not.

Spoiler alert. . . he likes it. 😉

Weekendween – Monster Mash!

Weekendween Monster Mash is a spooky themed readathon over on youtube that is hosted by GabbyReads and Oliviareadsalatte. It will run from October 28-31. There are four prompts which I have listed below as well as some books that I am hoping to read during the weekend.

Prompts:

Let a coin toss decide your first read – Pretty easy I will just do a coin toss to pick my first book.

Read a book with a monster in it, or a monster on the cover – For this one I am hoping to finally get to Into The Drowning Deep by Mira Grant which is about killer mermaids. I also might do a re-read of Rat Queens because I love this series so much!

Listen to a spooky audiobook or read a horror graphic novel / manga – So for this one I am probably going to go with more of a cozy themed graphic novel and I might read Mooncakes or a re-read of Blood Stain! I also might check out The Chilling adventures of Sabrina.

Read a book in the dark or at night – I will probably read whatever I have on my kindle and I always read at night so this one should be easy.

Here are some other books that I might end up reading during the weekend. I have these on my list for the month so if I don’t get to them before the readathon I might pick one of these up.
