Reading Round Up February 1-10

Hey Guys sorry its been so long since my last post, I seemed to have caught the cold that never ends. I have been able to read a little though so if you want to know what I have been reading so far this month keep reading! (P.S. There may be slight spoilers)

Passion on Park Avenue by Lauren Layne – 3 Stars This was one was a pretty fast read. While nothing really stood out to make it great it did keep me hooked so that I had to finish it. The book starts with our main character Naomi who is going to her recent lovers funeral only to find and meet his wife and mistress. The three woman form an unlikely bond and decide to help each other not fall for another cheating man. This is a three part series and the first one is about Naomi and her old child nemesis Oliver. I have to say I do love a good enemies to lovers romance. One of my early complaints of the book was all the label dropping in every other paragraph. However by the end that was no longer the case and I am left wondering if that was intentional to show the growth of the character. This book was a fun read and if you are looking for a light hearted romance then you should pick this one up.

The Chalk Man by CJ Tudor – 3.5 Stars I had a difficult time on how I was going to rate this one. The story definitely kept me engaged and wanting to know more but over all left me feeling like it was lacking. This story takes place in 2 different timelines. Part of it is in the 80’s about a group of kids who find a dead body and then in present day when one of them comes back into town. I don’t typically like dual timelines but this one seemed to work. I think my main problem is some of the misdirections we were given and how the story concluded. I feel like I missed something but not sure what it is was.

Educated by Tara Westover – 5 Stars This book was so good and I loved everything about it. Educated is about how Tara grew up one of seven children in a survivalist family in the mountains of Idaho. I am struggling with how to review this book because there is so much to this incredible story of how she had never received a formal education until she went to BYU when she was 17 and went on to get a doctorate from Cambridge. I highly recommend this book on audio, it was so addicting I could not stop listening. TW for both physical and mental abuse from a sibling, mental illness and family.

I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver – 4 Stars This story follows Ben who is a teen that has come out as non-binary too their parents and is then kicked out of their house. Ben has no one else to call except their estranged older sister who they have not spoken to in 10 years. What follows is a beautiful story about self acceptance and learning to rely on those around you. I loved Ben and their friendships with Nathan, Maleika and Sophia as well their sister Hannah and her husband Thomas. I would highly recommend this book!! TW for depression, anxiety, misgendering, homophobia.
